i'm disappointed but not surprised. most of disney/pixar's target audience don't really pay attention to this stuff and Lasseter is still probably worth something to someone over there.
I guess the house of mouse accepts king john back to sexually harass employees again good article about it if you haven't read anythin about his controversy https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/he-who-not-be-named-can-john-lasseter-ever-return-disney-1105297
disney doing something fairly disgusting for growth and profit, what else is new.
I never thought they would actually even consider it, especially considering how much flak they'd get for it what with the whole #metoo movement literally just happening plus if they bring him back they're literally sending the message that if you're important enough, it doesn't matter if you've been a horndog and harrassed people, you're still too valuable quite surprising given their recent track record of trying to stay out of any controversy
I doubt it, if the #MeTwo start calling Disney out of this they'll fire him so faster then lightning to protect their image.
I guess that onion video is more true then I expected https://youtu.be/68UQ0CByr-I
Well, I guess it's not a big surprise that Disney is not willing to part with the man behind all of their animation business and one of the best professionals in the field. They have enough money and influence to do that.
Time to boycott
Boycott Disney? Good luck. They own just about every piece of major media/company out there.
Yeah. Y'know. Walt disney had some controversial opinions (by modern standards) but i really think he'd be disgusted by this decision and how the company is steering purely into profit over the soul he worked so hard to establish. There's a reason why there used to be a movie template named after the company. Disney cartoons used to be the centre of the pop-culture universe. There's no denying that Lasseter had a huge role in keeping modern disney/pixar real, but unless he owns up there shouldn't be a place for him at the company. What i mean is that i would honestly be ok with him returning to the company after making shit right. By that i mean dealing with the legal fallout by accepting the consequences. I've always believed in the rehability of people and i'm not about to stop now. But there's a reason why there's a correctional system and while America seems to be confused about its merits, i believe in justice followed by second chances. TL;DR: Put the fucker in jail and THEN give him a job. (imagine if more people got jobs after jail.)
I agree, but it's not really up to Disney to put him in jail, is it? I'm not sure what actually needs to be done for him to have legal consequences. I believe in separating people from their work. It's up to companies to decide whether the person's talents are worth more than the problems that he could potentially cause. Hiring a creep or a criminal for his talent isn't inherently wrong, but I think things need to be done on both parties. The person should at least be aware of their problems and should be taking steps in becoming better, like going to therapy. The company should also make sure everyone he's gonna work with is aware of it (which should be easy in this case) and should also take steps to protect other employees (for example making sure the guy is never alone with 1 other person). Here the sources are saying he's going to be less involved with management, but still have creative influence. Sounds like they want to keep the important part of him while also minimizing his interactions with the team.
