Get it while it's hot
That UI's probably what the revamped Steam client UI will be.
Pretty sure it's almost the same UI as the hardware Steam Link
The background is the same at least
It is.
Outside of playing my library while I'm on the John, I can't see much utility in this unless a monitor craps out.
Still though, I appreciate the versatility and the thought that Steam Link won't be abandoned. I use my Link for playing Magicka and Serious Sam with the roomies and other controller games like Nioh; it's already a pretty tight package.
I love how you can alt tab out of it and cast whatever is on your pc right to your phone :v.
I tried it out on my phone, it works pretty flawlessly with no noticeable delay. But it probably helps that I have a decent PC/phone/internet.
I wouldn't mind playing games in my bedroom and because im on my phone I wouldn't need to send full 1080p hd
in settings you can have it start by just casting the desktop.
Doesn't look like you can use it as a standard gamepad for Android. Damn.
Just tried it out with my Steam Controller - finally! Moonlight isn't really reliably, let's hope this is.
Also, HEVC works! I didn't even know Nvidia drivers can use the HEVC encoding - turns out I'm way out of the loop
I'm fairly impressed. Gave Prey a go on it real quick, as well as Okami. Fairly responsive, decent framerate, workable input delay. Every now and again the network kinda choked and I dropped down to 5 or so FPS on my phone, meaning I wouldn't count on this for any serious gameplay. This could be down to the age of my phone, my strange OS (MIUI, a variant of Android), my own network, or any number of things.
Steam Controller was a pain in the ass. I had to upgrade the FW, it failed, then tried again, then it wouldn't pair with my phone properly, then I rolled back and upgraded again, failed again, upgraded one last time and it finally worked. I had to manually re-pair to my desktop. I can now only pair to my desktop by entering Big Picture Mode, which is very annoying.
For me, a cool little experiment. Might exploit this for some slower, easier games. Won't try to play anything serious though, the dropped packets from time to time make me think twice even though it works pretty damn well most of the time.
Now Chromecast support and we can completely drop the Steam Link box!
I'd buy a streaming device with an Ethernet port above all. I don't know what that market looks like but if they make a Steam Link Roku app or something and the thing can do Ethernet, and it works well, then the Steam Link would be totally outmoded.
Also, my setup is fairly non-standard.
My desktop is wired over Ethernet to a secondary wireless bridge router. This router supplies 5GHz and functions as a wired media bridge to the top floor of my house and communicates with my primary 5GHz Router/Modem on the ground floor. I believe my phone is connecting to the 5GHz network supplied by the secondary router on my top floor, going back downstairs to get to the main router, and then coming back upstairs to talk to my PC and vice versa. I strongly suspect that the massive occasional frame drop moments are existing somewhere in this complicated wireless network setup due to packet loss. My Steam Link is on the bottom floor talking to the main router via Ethernet, and it just needs to go upstairs once to talk to my main PC. I strongly suspect that if there's going to be any network issues it will exist somewhere in here.
Now can they please update normal steam mobile to not be complete anus thank you
Looks like an iOS app is also in the making. They used the wrong screenshot and leaked it.

its p much waiting for apple to give the go-ahead before putting onto the store.
I wish there were touch controls like on-screen analog sticks
Build $1000 PC,
Get $800 Mobile Phone,
So you sit on couch 2 meters away from PC and play games from PC on your phone
What a future we live in.
P.S - Yes I know this is good for travel.
Not exactly a mistake or a leak, they said in the initial press release that it was coming to iOS.
I wonder if we'll see a Steam Link app for Switch considering its internals. I mean, it already has a built-in controller, and Valve just added Switch Pro Controller support for desktop Steam anyway.
Apple has rejected the iOS version of the app

Not surprised. Apple's level of contempt for anyone that can be seen as a competitor is second-to-none, only Sony comes close.
Chromecast has an Ethernet adapter

Rasp pi version please! 720p60 streaming would really finalize my Retropiehole.
I'll be honest, I'm having trouble thinking of what any actual use of this would be. Not discounting that there is one, I just have no idea what it would actually be. What would be the point of this that I couldn't just go sit on my desktop for?
