Police and state regulators are investigating a Jacksonville man's claim that a McDonald's employee slipped a bleach pod into his soft drink.
Lee Graves said he made the discovery Friday morning after visiting the McDonald's drive-thru on Blanding Boulevard near Wilson Boulevard. He was leaving the parking lot when the drink overflowed.
"It erupted like a darn volcano that's a science experiment that a kid would do," Graves told News4Jax. " ... I don't want Coke all over my truck, so I grab it and I take a couple of gulps to stop it from foaming."
His first impression? It tasted like chlorine. When he removed the lid, he said, he noticed a blob of blue goo floating near the surface. He brushed it off initially, thinking someone had spit in the drink.
It wasn't until an hour later that he dumped the rest of the soda out. At the bottom of the cup, he said, he found a square-shaped tablet that appeared to be a detergent pod.
"The whole day my stomach is starting to be in a little bit of a knot," he recalled. "I was feeling a little bit nauseous and decided I needed to go get checked out."
Graves said he underwent several tests and two rounds of blood work at UF Health Jacksonville, where physicians treated him for bleach and chlorine poisoning. A day later, he's still feeling nauseous.
Yeeaah this is is gonna end up with a very long sentence, probably first degree attempted murder.
if this is true and the motive was spite, a laundry pod is about as extreme as you could go. spitting in their drink would actually be considered a sane and reasonable decision by comparison.
Better question is who the fuck carries a tide pod to work let alone in their pocket.
All mcdonalds are equipped with tide pods to wash their rags
weaponized memes
also why the fuck do you have tidepods on you when you're at work? very clearly was premeditated and thought of doing this incase a customer pissed her off
I'll be interested in seeing if this is true or not. That's so fucking bizarre.
Is this the szechuan sauce everyone talks about?
Its bullshit but it's not going to be long before these things possibly get banned because people can't have good things
As said before, some places have soap pods for when the clean rags at the restaurant. When I worked at the dining hall at my university, we had soap pods for stuff like laundry and mop buckets. Wouldn't be surprised to find them at a mcdonalds.
Seems too bizarre to be true.
You're telling me you've never seen people do cruel, short-sighted, emotional and impulsive things before?
By this point nothing seems too bizarre to be true anymore.
Yeah sure but I mean a customer asking for an order to be fixed is the most mundane, everyday thing. It's pretty unlikely someone would try to kill someone over that. You wouldn't last 5 minutes in retail if that set you off. Literally more likely he just chucked one in himself when he got home, it would be heaps easier. There's nothing to go on that the girl did it until the investigation concludes.
I don't think the employee knew it would possibly kill him. Remember this is a MCDONALDS employee we are talking about here.
I don't think people firmly understand how dangerous eating detergent is.
What a spiteful cunt.
Shouldn't be working in the food industry if you're unable to control yourself.
Forgive the incoming brainstorming.
On one hand, yeah, it is possible that he did it to himself for the sake of getting a big lawsuit payout.
On the other hand, there was a thread the other day of a woman throwing her shit at someone because they told her they only let customers use the restroom, so "but that's insane!" is sadly not an ironclad excuse. The alleged victim also says in his facebook post that he hopes the police find evidence when they review the camera footage, so he's at least aware that there's some degree of falsifiability in his statement.
Back on the one hand, he may only be mentioning the camera footage to make his case sound more legit. If it ends up that there's nothing concrete on film, he might end up saying that she did it out of view somehow, depending on his knowledge of the camera setup they have.
Back on the other hand, looking at the root of the issue, he was hospitalized. If he were trying for lawsuit money, he could have just left the bleach pod in there for a while. He might get less money, but he wouldn't have to worry about being in the hospital.
Back on the one hand, maybe he thought it wouldn't be as believable if he didn't drink some of it and have the hospital check on him, and didn't realize how bad it would be.
Back on the other hand, it's simply less complicated if we assume the employee didn't assume it would be that bad, healthwise and tastewise. She could also have assumed that the bleach pod would dissolve completely, leaving less evidence.
Ingesting this kind of shit can cause internal necrosis
let that sink in for a minute
Not really. People get pissed off, people experience stress and it piles up. Anything can be the last straw.
Want to get a little more classist there bud?
Shouldn't have done it in the first place then.
A lot of Americans are under the delusion that they are under a meritocracy and that whatever situation you end up in, you inherently deserve.
Hence they're all temporarily embarrassed millionaires
