Oh, who's afraid of Little Rocket Man, Little Rocket Man, Little Rocket Man... ♫
Why bother doing that now.
To be fair, this could be an attempt to salvage the meeting with NK in June. I doubt it was Trump who made the call though.
Because Donnie needs to win, he needs Kim's cooperation because he's talked himself onto the Nobel Prize pedestal and he doesn't want to be knocked off because he'll be humiliated, a fate worse than nuclear war for him.
Kim played him like a ten-cent harmonica and he fell for it every step of the way. Now he's desperate to salvage anything so he can avert public failure, and North Korea knows this.
Kim Jong Un, while a genocidal dictator who deserves nothing better than a bullet in the back of his head, is well versed in madman theory diplomacy, and he's playing the pumpkin like a fiddle.
Can someone explain to me why SK and the US thought it a good idea to conduct military drills in the middle of negotiations? Why flex then? It makes no sense.
Having the drills in the first place seemed like a bad idea in the middle of peace talks.
Agreed, who the fuck thought they were a good idea.
I still find it weird that Kim wanted to negotiate for peace.
With or without his nuclear plan in shambles, there HAS to be a good reason. Maybe he does see an end of the line for the country if he keeps going the way he is now?
The drills were scheduled quite a while in advance, before it even looked like negotiations were going to happen, they've been an annual occurrence for quite some time now.
mr "talk loudly and carry a big stick" himself, patrolling the north with bombers during peace talks would be trump's exact thing
Not only that but drills well known for pissing NK off
Probably Trump, thinking it would intimidate them into compliance.
Ok having just come from being stationed in Korea, I can 1000% tell you that these drills are a yearly occurrence, funds are set aside for them, and they are scheduled waaaaay in advance. Drills in Korea are extremely regular and there are a lot of them throughout the year. They have been going on for decades. You can't pin them on the current president no matter how bad you want to. I'm not his biggest fan but come on.
Let's play a game of 'read the article'.
According to Friday's report, the officials said South Korea had asked
to not participate in an air drill that also involved Japan and the U.S.
So, It's not the US chickening out of anything. It's South Korea chickening out of an exercise unrelated to the big annual one.
"There was never any plan for B-52s to participate in exercise Max
Thunder, and the exercise continues as scheduled without change," a
Pentagon spokesman told CNBC.
And said big annual military exercise that NK always throws a fit over is still going ahead without any changes. It's fucking nothing.
