so apparently if i have stuff added to my collection and added to workshopdl i should remove them from my addons folder? so someone told me. i'm not sure.
Makes no sense, who told you that? If you have the collection on your server, and you remove the addons from your own addons folder, you will just redownload them again when joining the server. Thats completley useless you already have the addons. Why uninstall them and then just redownload again as soon as you join your server? Im assuming you mean server collection, its being downloaded via workshop, and with addon folder you mean your own. If you mean the addons folder of the SERVER tho...then that would mean that the addons you have in the addons folder (which are usually gmodstore addons and stuff), are existing on the workshop. Which cant be the case. So either i get something wrong, or the person who told you this is wrong
The only reason I can see to remove them from your addons folder is to ensure they're actually being downloaded and mounted properly, and it's never a bad idea to make sure your players can see the custom content.
gmod has a modified filesystem where workshop addons are injected in a different way than those addon folders, creating a constant load time, no matter how many workshop addons you add which is the opposite of those addon folders, where each folder adds to the load time, not to mention that those addon folders aren't sent to the client in most cases. he said. though he probably said other things but cant be arsed to look over days of history lol
