i just gonna show how i use some soft lamps configuration to make a good outside lightning using the focal point distance. this was made for help a friend
you will need soft lamps
do a scenebuild

now set in gameplay tab the lamp shape to circle(outline) and the resolution to 2

this is where the focal point distance will enter, you need to slide until the lamps point to the scene

this creates a very acurrate ambient oclusion. now
the next layer is the sun layer is very easy to do just select a good angle and set the lamps as usual

too dark? just duplicate it and set to screen and you will get something
as i dont know how to use the lightbounce command i use this trick to replicate the radiosity of the enviroment(the ground and sometimes other stuff)
set the lamp below the ground and make the nearz far as the ground dont make shadow in the models
