Nice of them to actually use the less-lethal options for once and actually capture the dog alive instead of just blasting it immediately.
Not trying to stir up controversy here but immediately blasting it would imo be the smart thing to do. it's a stroke of luck that the student the article mentions(or anyone for that matter) wasn't hurt by it. Vicious dogs absolutely cannot be allowed to run wild.
Fucking idiot owner.
The third attack done by the dog, and was meant to be killed because the dumbfuck owner can't train or control it.
I've seen the video yesterday. The owner is a fucking idiot for letting his dog roam free.
There are most dog breeds unless you rigorously trained them they cant be going off leash PERIOD.
Not strictly true, I've met German Shepard's and Rottweilers who have had no behaviour training whatsoever and their only danger to anyone is being overly friendly and accidentally knocking someone over in their sincerely enthusiastic attempt to say hello.
Also licking your face to death.
That's bad behavior all the same. I hate when people think it's cute when dogs are so badly trained they're jumping on people or darting out to greet someone every time the front door opens. If the dog acts like that it needs to be controlled
Bad behaviour yes but dangerous no.
I'd rather a badly behaved but friendly dog as opposed to a dangerous one.
Does anyone not notice the fact that a dog, which is more unpredictable and dangerous than a human, is getting better treatment than a human ?
I think an aggressive human with a gun or knife is more dangerous than an aggressive dog.
Sure a dog could do you some serious harm but a human with either of those two could kill you VERY quickly.
Not to mention the officer on duty probably violated protocol and will get a telling off for this.
well that's too bad
that woman is such a cunt
I had a GSD and I do not want to sound pretentious or elitist. But, GSD are a breed of dogs which the owners needs to know a lot of information about. There is a lot of factors about these dogs which you have to account for - such as breeding standards and temperaments. The dog in the video seemed somewhat okay, but was likely being stressed from the issue in the home, then on top of it being defensive. You got to have a lot of control and discipline with these dogs. The only way I can describe these dogs is as guardians, mine is absolutely protective of me. I've had a stray dog charge at me, my dog positioned herself from my side to standing in front of me, then went 10 kinds of fucking crazy. The stray ended up darting off somewhere else to only get picked up by animal control.
Like any dog as long as it is socialized, trained decently, and listens to the owner it is perfectly fine. GSD are the most lovable dogs I've ever had, you just got to take a lot of extra time with them and give them a job to do so they don't get bored.
I think the cops realized the dog wasn't being overly aggressive, and was being more defensive. They had the opportunity to use the taser and also had two officers there (One to cover, one to use the taser). The owner is a fucking moron who should have at first change grabbed the dog and put it inside. The woman is an asshole to deliberately letting the dog out knowing it could become defensive. Also don't make this what you are trying to make it. The cop could have shot the dog to death and it would have been justified, he just used his own best judgement and instead of killing a family pet he use an alternate method.
Also you can argue humans are unpredictable and dangerous, which can easily be proven. Each case and situation is different, that is why it is important to give police a certain level of control to make decisions based on the factors.
Death is never a first resort
The owner is definitely at fault for not having it on a leash, but don't just kill anything or anyone instead of subduing them strictly out of convenience
Would be fine with it even if someone you knew was scarred for life by a loose dog because an officer wanted to save an animal less intelligent than the pigs we slaughter by the billions for food?
Why, because it looks cute?
Other possibilities including the fact that a rabid dog may not take kindly to electric shocks and severely injure or kill you.
That is so demonstrably untrue with police.
Granted, they usually pick the lethal option because they might be at risk, which is understandable, but they reach for the lethal option when others exist frequently.
It's fun reading people say things based on very little, to no experience with various things they're referencing.
Excuse me but in my country we do not eat dogs, so yes to a certain degree
however the sentiment is still shared towards other humans as well
is it really so hard to just not kill people or things, jesus
There are hundreds of cases of dogs, even non-aggressive ones, being gunned down in the US. Honestly it's about the same.
My GFs mother has been doing Agility for almost 10 years, if her experience means shit to you then Im sorry
Devils advocate but entirely true, tasers rarely work. This dog was being aggressive from the start and the owner was not helping the situation of which could have been avoided from the very start.
Going further into this the owner is a fucking idiot trying to avoid the situation and the woman is a moron as well.
This entire situation is fucked, dog is frankly lucky in this situation however "Champ" has done this 3 times.
This dog is violent due to poor owners and is a danger to everyone, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets euthanized.
