https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/20/pope-juan-carlos-cruz From the tone I thought this was like the pope telling him God disapproves him
“He told me, ‘Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter. God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are,’” Cruz told Spanish newspaper El País. Beautiful
I think every article I've ever read about the current pope has been inspiring and kind hearted. I'm sure that there are articles out there that highlight a side I might disagree or dislike, but right now he seems to be pretty much the best and most progressive pope that's ever been seen.
Kinda wild that they followed darth sidious with this guy huh.
Wow, rude. It's not his fault he wa
Francis looks pretty Palpatiney as well https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c7/Pope_Francis_in_March_2013_%28cropped%29.jpg I wonder if the cardinals elected him knowing he'd be liberal (they must have known he's a Jesuit) or if it's like Earl Warren and they expected him to be conservative.

Its uncanny come on https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113069/5356ca10-72fe-4d37-875d-b087e4715b8e/image.png
Actually sort of forgot what he looked like, yeah that's pretty close to what took Ian McDiarmid a professional SFX job
He looks like High Sparrow so probably watch out, too. https://static.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/pope-and-sparrow-575921695cbeb__880.jpg But yeah, he seems like a great pope, very inspiring.
Emperor Popetine.
Apparently the two popes actually get on pretty well. Benedict's on his last legs nowadays, but he did recently talk to the effect that he has confidence in Francis.
cool, i wish he would view all LGBTQ+ people the same way though. until then i don't really care about his double standards however progressive the good parts are. Pope Francis’s remarks today opposing “the biologic and psychological manipulation of sexual difference” show that he doesn’t understand the situation of transgender people, say LGBT Catholic groups. The pope made the comments while addressing the Pontifical Academy for Life’s general assembly in Rome. “The biological and psychical manipulation of sexual difference, which biomedical technology allows us to perceive as completely available to free choice — which it is not! — thus risks dismantling the source of energy that nurtures the alliance between man and woman and which renders it creative and fruitful,” he told members of the academy, which was created by Pope John Paul II in 1994 to deal with bioethical concerns. “By referring to transgender people’s desires to transition as ‘manipulation’ and a ‘free choice’ Pope Francis shows that he does not understand that for transgender people, a transition is a discovery and affirmation of who God created them to be,” said a statement issued by Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, which works for LGBT equality within Catholicism. “Gender is more than a biological reality.  It also includes psychological, emotional, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. When some people seek surgery to confirm their gender identity, they are celebrating their God-given identities. A decision to transition is often made after many years of confusion and turmoil, as well as many forms of discernment with medical, psychological, and spiritual authorities.” DignityUSA, another LGBT Catholic group, released a similar statement, saying in a press release, “Pope Francis’s statement denouncing technologies that support gender confirmation demonstrates the pontiff’s tragic ignorance on the challenges faced by transgender people, and puts this population at risk of increased discrimination and violence.” https://www.advocate.com/religion/2017/10/05/pope-blasts-gender-confirmation-surgery
See, I wanna like this guy, but then I see an article like this on the same day and I don't know what to think. Pope reduces sanctions against some paedophile priests | Catholi..
I feel like this guy gets mad props for saying soundbites while the Catholic Church as a whole remains as bigoted and hypocritical than ever.
It's almost like having a loveable figurehead lets you do whatever you want.
Yeah, i hate to be so cynical since generally its better to have fake good than real bad. But this guy is a PR-pope. I'ts pretty obvious.
the pope has always been PR in modern times. it's just really powerful PR sometimes.
doesnt this go against the bible tho? could someone with a little more knowledge of the bible pipe in here?
The bible has instances of God "hardening hearts" against certain groups so in a way it does bite the bullet of moral luck.
If you go back to something like Leviticus, it is written that a man laying with another man is an abomination and should not be tolerated in the tribes of Israel. By that same token, wearing mixed fibers is an abomination as well. If you want to get real bible-scholary, none of that matters anyway, since technically the laws of Christ replace the old laws of Moses. As it was explained to me in catholic school, being gay is not a sin, it's the act of having gay sex, which is frowned upon the same way as a man and a woman having pre-marital sex, although unfortunately the church still does not recognize gay marriage.
Good guy pope. It is strange and sad how many Christians (especially the fundamentalists/evangelicals) are so unchristlike. Almost like its just an identity rather than a thing to live by. To quote the movie "kingdom of heaven": "I am robert de bouillon"
The Bible is so fucking muddled after thousands of years of religion (and vague writing in the first place) that you can really just derive any meaning you want out of it. Anyone can bring up a verse to support their argument, and then anyone else can bring up a handful of verses that say the exact opposite.
There's an oft-misquoted quote by Ghandi like that. “Jesus is ideal and wonderful, but you Christians, you are not like him.”
Also the fact it was rewritten like a fucking billion times.
Considering a lot of the more hardline cardinals in the Vatican are releasing their own "clarifying" statements in contrast to Pope Francis's, I don't buy that. Plus he's a jesuit, which is an order pretty well known for having progressive and open views toward things.
