Pasting link with timestamp so yall can see the specific quote. Exert has been spliced into a radio talk show discussing cuts to police.
Back story to this. Conservative gov have been doing hefty cuts to public services including policing for years.
Here is another video, from several years back, of a "community police officer of the year" telling Theresa May (then home secretary, now prime minister) that the cuts have crippled the police.
Other related news. UK has recently been facing a large increase in knife crime, which many blame on cuts to policing. First video displays stats, over past 3 years violent crime has "gone up" 50% but charges for violent crime have gone down 5%. Burglary is up 5% but charges for it have gone down 25%.
Not sure if this is "news" enough to be in SH.

Was that meant to be the other way round?
Increase in violent crime (I put "" since its reported and a couple of % might be due to different reporting/recording)
Decrease in people being charged for violent crime.
P tired today so maybe I typed it wrong
Wheres the money going to instead of public services? And why cut funding to public services at all?
tea plantations
Well they cut corporation tax costing at least £16.5 billion a year in the near term
Soooo I guess that money is buying a buncha rich dudes fresh yacht's coz the 2018 dulex ultra model is no longer chic
I don't think its so much that the money is being re diverted, the Tories accidentally set the country to permanent austerity mode and don't know how to turn it off so pretty much all councils and public services have been told to cut funding for years now.
Total UK tax income has stayed basically constant, as a percent of GDP, for the last few decades. (https://www.ukpublicrevenue.co.uk/revenue_chart_1900_2020UKp_17c1li011lcn_F0t)
Isn't there going to be a knife ban in London now?
There's so little police presence around here. You can get away with so much as long as it isn't straight up murder, even then you'll probably have to wait a day or two for a PCSO to come round and have a look at the crime scene.
By law you can carry a knife if you have reason to carry a knife. Ie camping, for your work etc. Some types of knives, like push knives or projectile knives are full on illegal because their only purpose is to be used on humans. The knife ban thing is just a meme, half for fun, half to try and diminish the credibility of people calling for the banning/regulation of other deadly things.
Serious question: what if having a pocket knife is just a convenient thing to carry around? For example, I always have a small keychain swiss army knife on me. I use it all the time for various little tasks, but I don't have a specific reason to carry it. Would that be illegal?
If it's in your bag then you're generally gonna be fine, if it's in your pocket then be prepared to answer some serious questions.
It's attached to my keychain with my keys, which is in my pocket. I mean, at least where I live, it's a totally normal thing to have. It's just super useful for everything from opening packages, cutting various items, etc.
I can't clear these replies on my android phone.
My understanding is you can carry a non fixed blade under 3 inches in to most places (IE not airports or gov places, gigs, stadiums and night clubs would likely refuse you entry too ).
Imo fixed blade bit is a bit lame since it makes the knife much less safe to use but I spose it stops stabbings, realistically though if some scroat is gonna stab you he'll use a screwdriver so why gimp pocket knives?
