The 24-year-old was reported missing by her family hours after witness reports that she had been “bundled into a car” close to her home in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
Officers located the suspected vehicle used in her abduction in Cherrywood, south Dublin and shot suspected kidnapper Mark Hennessy dead after he pulled a knife.
Timeline of Events:
Saturday:
6.15pm: Gardai receive report of a female pedestrian being forced into a black Nissan SUV on the R760, south of Enniskerry.
11.20pm: Jastine Valdez is reported missing by her family.
Sunday:
6.30am: Gardai attend the scene of the abduction on the R760 and recover Jastine’s mobile phone.
12.50pm: Gardai issue a public appeal for information about Jastine’s disappearance.
4.40pm: Gardai issue details about the alleged car used in the abduction.
7pm: Gardai are informed of the sighting of the vehicle in the Cherrywood Industrial Estate in south Dublin.
8pm: Detectives supported by the armed guards approach the vehicle. A man threatens officers with a knife and a detective opens fire, shooting him in the head and the arm.
Sunday night: There is no sign of missing Jastine following the shooting and gardai cordon off the scene, which is overlooked by the Brides Glen Luas stop, to allow a torch-lit search of the area. The suspected abductor is named locally as Mark Hennessy, a 40-year-old dad-of-two from Bray, Co Wicklow
Monday:
8am: Gardai continue their search for Jastine.
Afternoon: Gardai reportedly recover Jastine’s purse and ID card at a disused golf club in Rathmichael.
3.45pm: Gardai searching for Jastine discover the body of a female at Puck’s Castle, Rathmichael, Co Dublin. Officers thank the public, the media, the Defence Forces and Civil Defence for their assistance in the investigation.
The note was found following an incident in which the suspect Mark Hennessy was shot dead by an armed officer.
The man killed has been named locally as 40-year-old Mark Hennessy, from Bray, in Co Wicklow. He was a father-of-two.
The kidnapping suspect, a building contractor originally from Ballybrack, had told his wife he was going out socialising on Saturday evening.
Hennessy was shot dead and, as is normal when a garda firearm is discharged, the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is investigating the shooting.
Everybody is kind of surprised as to what causes someone to go haywire and just kidnap someone randomly, the note is still being inspected for motives.
