A Silicon Valley pastor has resigned from his church after calling the city of Palo Alto an “elitist shit den of hate” and criticizing the hypocrisy of “social justice” activism in the region.
“I believe Palo Alto is a ghetto of wealth, power, and elitist liberalism by proxy, meaning that many community members claim to want to fight for social justice issues, but that desire doesn’t translate into action,” Stevens wrote, lamenting that it was impossible for low-income people to live in the city. “The insane wealth inequality and the ignorance toward actual social justice is absolutely terrifying.”
"A ghetto of wealth" is my new favorite phrase.
So is this the land of fake tits or something?
The land of silicon chips.
Fake Titty land is the San Fernando Valley.
Oooops
Shit dens, randy.
I mean, if you read the article he sounds spot on to me. He's basically recycling the usual (accurate) complaints about the Silicon Valley area through his own lens as a pastor in the area.
He's right. People here just act like they're smarter but they would rather let someone else tell them what to think. There are people who genuinely care and help, but there's a very strong NIMBY attitude here
Doing nothing? What's he talking about? They're blogging about social justice every day.
Not surprising. Social justice ideology is pretty bourgeois in class character, ironically
fair point but before people run on this, the same criticisms can be leveled against texas and especially oklahoma
Texas and Oaklahoma don't pretend to be liberal.
This guy is my fuckin hero
Not quite, because the majority of Texas and Oklahoma don't pretend to care about social justice.
texas and oklahoma like to pretend to be helping people off of the horrors of government assistance, and teaching them morals and work ethic that will make them successful while being poor in either state is a fucking miserable experience engineered through a regressive tax code and burdensome social welfare system.
but hey, libetards are the hypocrites here.
9/10 i would rather deal with texas conservatives than a san fran liberal.
Van Nuys/San Ferd is silicone valley, and is ironically a much nicer placer to hang out.
Well, yeah, in the context of a story specifically about Silicon Valley hypocritical liberalism, that's pretty much the gist of it. The thread wasn't about Texas or Oklahoma until you whatabout'ed them in and (wrongly) claimed that they embody the same issue.
Gotta find a way to shoehorn in how bad you hate Texas in a thread that doesn't have anything to do with it.
Well more as Neoliberal dystopic state than normal social liberalism.
That very good example of I was talking about.
The problem is pretty clearly the laws and standards that allow them to behave this way. The individuals are arguably not at fault, and most of them are fuelled by the guys with really deep pockets anyway.
I don't even know if it's worth defending at this point, but I feel like it's worth noting that "the SJWs" hate the Silicon Valley lot because they're functionally neo-liberal plutocrats pretending to be on the bleeding edge of progressiveness.
I thought this scene was a bit of a joke in Silicon Valley, but it is really true..

Can confirm since I reside in Palo Alto.
What the fuck does Texas and Oklahoma being shit have to do with California's problems? This isn't a problem they caused, this is entirely on us.

This is pretty much spot on what it's like to live here. The weird thing about these sorts of people is that they're all the children of old money or immigrants who busted their asses in tech.
