After i got banned 2 times for bumbing a Thread, and i saw other people being banned for the same Reason i was wondering:
There is the Rule to now reply to Threads that are older than a month (unwritten rule, i asked a mod on Discord..but apparently a Month is the given time)
I got my first ban on a Thread that was around a month old, and i got banned because..well, bumbing.
My Suggestion is:
Why not lock threads as soon as they got a month old?
Because: AFTER i got banned for 12 hours, THEN the thread got locked. Why not before so people cant bump it?
I still see some threads that are years and years old, and are still open to get replies. And if someone replies he gets a ban. Thats a bit...weird?
Wouldn´t it be better to lock Threads when they exceed the "bump" time? So no one could bump it and get a ban?
I really dont understand why people just get banned for replying to old threads, instead of just locking these threads.
Could save alot of people alot of bans XD
Because there are threads that are over a month old that are still active.
Well then simply lock the ones that didnt got any messages for over a month? problem solved.
There are legit reasons for bumping an old thread. For example, old SH threads get bumped with updates occasionally that spark further discussion.
I think a pop-up saying you might be banned if the thread hasn't been active in a month would be helpful. That way you can still post if you are legitimately updating with new stuff but hopefully it would discourage people from just forgetting they're looking at a 4 year old news article and posting for no reason.
I talked to a Mod on discord, and the only reason you would be allowed to bump a old thread would be if its your own and you want to add the solution. No other reason would allowe you to bump a old thread.
So this problem would also instantly be fixed if People who CREATED the thread would be allowed to lock the threads themself or open them again to add something.
All problems that have been anounced here so far are easy to fix
Some time ago someone posted on a 7 year old thread "the download link doesnt work"
he got banned reason: "of course a 7 year old download link wont work anymore"
Which i find...kinda unfair..i mean sure, you could notice its 7 years old, but lets be real, who looks at the time how old the thread is EVERYTHING he posts something on a thread? ANd being banned just because saying the link doesnt work anymore on a old thread is weird...i mean a 7 YEAR old thread, with no new posts for 7 YEARS, just lock it....
Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen someone get banned for bumping old megathreads if a new game has come out or something like that. If there is legitimate discussion to be had, I doubt you'd get banned. I think I remember Stefán Karl Stefánsson's cancer thread being bumped a couple of times with updates after discussion had stopped for a while.
Like i said, i asked a Mod..not sure then. But still, it would help ALOT if people would have the power to lock their own threads.
Atleast that should be considered by the Forum Devs..it would prevent alot of bumping
It would also be easily abused.
How could you abuse the feature??
If the creator if the thread can lock it. whats supposed to happen bad? that no one can reply anymore?
Just don't go around bumping threads unless you've got some actual contributions to make, it's not rocket science. "Link dead" in a 7 year old thread where the OP may very well be dead already, bug reports for clearly abandoned addons, bumping just to criticise someone's grammar or shit like that doesn't help anyone.
