Yes, let's get Gen9 into full swing already. Past five years have just been depressing.
And I still haven't bought one. Welp.
Already? Feels like it came out not that long ago. Time really flies.
Still kind of feels like we are in the early stage of the cycle to me. Like this generation of consoles never found its feet?
Cause they where barely any real exclusives aside from like Bloodborne, Persona 5, God of War and the Yakuza games. Compare to the PS3 which saw Naughty Dog release Uncharted 1-3 and the Last of Us while the PS4 only so far has seen Uncharted 4.
Can't wait for the Switch to fall even further behind in graphics performance.
yeah, feels like only now the good games have started coming out
I know people will come up with counterexamples, but it feels like there hasn't been much 'disruption' in this generation, everything's kind of just continued as it was going before.
Many of the things which happened last gen - the rise and stagnation of CoD, the rise of Battlefield, the post-Bungie floundering of Halo, the rise of Minecraft, the rise of indie games - have just continued into this generation without much change. For example I think going into this generation, I think I expected that some new franchise would be rising up to take CoD's crown and kill it. But it hasn't really happened, CoD is still here, same old shit. Halo is still floundering, Battlefield and Minecraft are still around, indie games are same as ever.
Those are just examples but overall I think if you compare 2006 (start of last gen) with 2011 (equivalent to where we are now) there were a load of new franchises/shifts in the industry, whereas if you compare today with five years ago it's kind of the same in a lot of ways
thanks for buying a ps4 pro
so what's the point of releasing AAA games like Death Stranding/Days Gone/Ghost/The new spiderman game on a dying console?
Double dipping with the "true 4k GOTY edition" on PS5 a year later
Didn't they intend for the PS4 to have the longest lifecycle initially? So much for that.
Even Bloodborne is a continuation of the Souls game formula, something that originated last gen.
I wouldn't be surprised if the rise of PC gaming has led to somewhat of a stagnation in the console game market. Feels like theres less competition for exclusives driving the market. Furthermore, and I feel like the most important thing, is that game production costs have gotten so big that producers seem to be sticking to what works and tacking on micro-transactions to ensure revenue, rather than taking risks with anything creatively compelling.
because more than likely it will be ported to PS5 like all near end cycle games area. Plus im pretty sure the jump from 4-5 will not be nearly as drastic as 3-4 was considering the architecture is more sane in 4 than 3 will ever be.
Imagine it turns out to be a PS5 exclusive
Pretty sure they are just talking about the actual PS4, the PS4 Pro is probably not near its end just yet.
Well, maybe just a year then at least.
You could have said the same thing when Nintendo announced the Switch and yet still had games coming out for the Wii U.
It's not like it's ending next week. It probably has a year or two left before they move on to the PS5.
So The Last of Us II Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Remastered Part 1 and maybe Knack 3 for PS5 launch titles?
Not really, the Switch is something completely different. It was never designed to compete with either Microsoft or Sony's platforms. I bought a Switch to play games on the go, and rarely use it docked.
Hopefully their next console will be backwards compatible since the infrastructure change shouldn't be as drastic as it was between PS3 and 4.
Consoles have gone the way of cellphones.
A new one every year.
Persona 5 was on PS3.
Maybe now that Sony has been working with Ryzen and Vega the past year they realized the could make an even more impressive piece of hardware this early.
I just got a PS4 Pro, can we not kill it yet?
And here I am, finally upgraded from a wii to a wii u.
I feel old
3 more years before the next generation of playstation is likely still considered the " end of it's life cycle".
Sony did say that the PS4 would have a longer life cycle than it's predecessors.
Sounds to me like Sony is still on track. They're still a business, they do everything according to a timeline.
Bloodborne is phenomenal but aside from that none of the exclusives really grabbed me.
It's not like new consoles will be that impressive graphically tbh
At this point what we need to be focusing on is gameplay more than anything and a lot of games aren't doing that
dreams is the only exclusive i really care about tbh
also the yakuza series as its my first jump into the series
