Some of the Republicans were pushing for a bill that actually protected Dreamers, but Trump refused to back it because he still wants his damn border wall.

The fight isn't over, because the House is only five Republican votes away from forcing a vote on immigration bills no matter what Paul Ryan wants. The quest to get enough signatures will continue after the recess, and the recess may make more House Republicans support the effort.

Trump has vowed to veto any immigration bill that doesn't include funding for his stupid wall. It'd look really great if his own Congress is sending him bills and he's shooting them down because of selfish baby demands. Especially so close to the midterms when Republicans need to hold onto as many seats as possible in both houses of Congress.
