Islands vote in referendum on Eighth Amendment
Ballots were cast on 12 islands, with polling stations opening at different times during the day.
Residents on islands off counties Donegal, Mayo and Galway go to the polls a day ahead of the rest of the country to allow for all eventualities in getting their votes to count centres in time.

More than 3.2 million people are registered to vote in the referendum on the Eighth Amendment.
The overall Yes/No result will be announced tomorrow tonight, with further results and demographic breakdowns to be released at 8am on Saturday morning.
I went up to the local school to vote with my mam and sister, brought the dogs since its a nice day. We all voted yes (allow abortion). There were a fair few people there, normally when I've gone to vote there's only a couple of people.
I have a feeling this one will be much closer than the gay marriage vote.
What's the campaign been like for this? All I've seen is some campaign posters about how Britain kills 6 trillion babies every day or whatever
Most of the no posters follow a similar pattern, basically appealing to the idea that its a baby being killed rather than a fetus being aborted. Around the city centre I saw mostly yes posters with a few no ones though out where I live it's mostly no posters. I want to say I see it going yes but I could just be being optimistic.
Your house can be a polling station for a referendum? That's pretty rad tbh. How do you even go about doing that?
I just want it to be over.
I am sick of seeing every lamp post full of pink/green banners and people climbing bridges with big Yes/No banners above motorways.
Everywhere you go - there are people pushing Yes/No agenda.
One of most pushed no banners is:
"1 in 5 Babies are aborted in UK.
VOTE NO"
One of most pushed yes banners is:
"192'000 Have been Forced Abroad.
Vote YES"
It's actually crazy.
Ireland's a heckin weird place tbh
Did you know that 50% of babies in England are aborted? Or that 1 in 5 babies in Britain are aborted? Because the No campaign will make sure you do.
Never mind that those numbers don't make any sense.
Added quick simple summary. Thanks.
That's because the Romans didn't want to deal with the Fianna cannibals and decided it was too savage to civilize.
The 'yes' side is so far only polling at 52% to 56% depending on what poll you look at. And apparently there's an up to estimated 20% of undecided votes that could swing it one way or another. You could see one side winning at a smaller margin than Brexit.

We'll see if they were right when the results of this poll roll in.
Cant vote because I live in Belfast but wish yous all the best. It'll help women in the republic and in the north. This island has too many outdated laws that were enforced by a religious state years ago.
Why is tomorrow crossed out? The stuff I'm reading says they aren't even going to start counting til tomorrow morning?
You're dramatically underestimating Britain's capacity for death and destruction.
Some woman in my office has been wearing a CHOOSE LIFE tshirt all week and we aren't even in Ireland/she isn't Irish.
Yeah sorry I mis-read it.
Thought results will be same day as voting.
Throwing off the shackles of good ol Catholic ignorance and guilt, put to a nice clean democratic vote.
