OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A gunman opened fire inside an Oklahoma City restaurant during the dinner rush, wounding a woman and two girls before two armed citizens shot him dead outside, police said Friday. The suspected gunman, 28-year-old Alexander Tilghman, was armed with a pistol when he entered Louie's On The Lake around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. A 39-year-old woman and two juvenile girls were shot and wounded, while an unnamed man fell and broke his arm while fleeing, according to a statement from police. Tilghman was then shot dead outside the restaurant by two citizens identified by police as Juan Carlos Nazario and Bryan Wittle. All four victims were reported in good condition Friday, according to Oklahoma City police Capt. Bo Mathews. A suspected motive for the shooting hasn't been released. My kudos to their bravery, I just hope those who were wounded are OK.

In an absolute best circumstances situation the suspect would have been apprehended with no loss of life but only the attacker dying is certainly a very close second.
I'm not huge on the concept of "more guns make everybody safer" but I'm really glad that it worked out this time around. The fact that every innocent made it out okay is amazing.
It had to happen some day.
I find it concerning that the guy was apparently an armed security guard. Why would someone with those qualifications do that?
Blind rage, depression or psychosis are unfortunately not stopped in their tracks by qualifications or training.
Training doesn't make you some master race. These things will always happen, because we are only human.
America at it again with the random shootings. Lucky it didn't go bad this time.
Nobody is perfect, and you can't prevent every bad thing from happening, that's the nature of existence. In the 500,000+ years we've been on this rock, only the smallest fraction of that is the civilized world, which dates back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, 15,000 BCA and all that jazz. All I can do is accept it when it happens, and if there's anything I can do to prevent myself from becoming a victim like this, then I'll take those steps to make it happen. But I'm not going to let this shit keep me from living my life, and I'm not going to sit and ponder all the 'what-ifs" and "why" questions that pop into my head all day either, it's unhealthy. The short version is people are dumb and do stupid shit, and you should never underestimate someone else's stupidity.
Not sure why a security guard would be any less likely to pull a stunt like this than anybody else.
I'd imagine people wouldn't suspect someone who's meant to keep people and their property safe. Kinda like a fireman who also happens to be an arson. To be honest I have no idea what the screening process behind hiring a security guard is or what kind of training they undergo- if any
The Pulse nightclub shooter was also an armed security guard working for G4S. He was investigated by the FBI for making terroristic threats years before the attack, but was cleared of wrongdoing. He was a person of interest in the case of a suicide bombing that an acquaintance of his carried out, but was cleared again. His wife knew he watched ISIL propaganda videos and beheadings but says she didn't think he was a thread because the FBI cleared him already. It ended up being discovered that his psychological records were sketchy and G4S was fined over it.
I would think that having a job and qualifying for a position of responsibility are both factors that correlate with smaller chance of random violence
There's still that chance though All you need to do to be an entry level security guard is be fat though.
Hey. our cars kill more people than school shootings so bitch about that instead.
I'm really getting sick of being strawmanned as A GUN HATER LIBERAL WHO INRFINIGES MUH RIGHTS because I think there should be some reasonable, light barriers on obtaining a firearm to prove competency, much like how we have that for cars! Cars and guns are both dangerous, but only a car requires a licence to operate. I'm fine with guns as a hobby, I've shot guns before and I can understand the appeal, but please stop acting like I want to ban all weapons just because I think gun licences (Which are a thing in every other developed country almost) is something reasonable to have for what is a dangerous item in incompetent or deranged hands.
I'm just saying the car death problem is a bigger and more easily solvable problem to politicians who are tone deaf to psychology
Nobody's trying to ban cars and will want to use the DMV database as a list of vehicle owners to target. I'd be fine with licensing if it didn't come with the perennial threat that I'm one election away from being branded a criminal. They would have to write it into the Constitution with provisions that it cannot be used to restrict ownership in any other way than as written by the amendment.
What is sad to me is the article indicates that this seemed to be a legitimate case of mental illness leading to destruction. It is saddening because my state has cut a large amount of money from our statewide DHS and mental health facilities which has lead to a large increase in emergency mental health 911 calls and hospitalisations. And it isn't just those departments either, Our Education, Prisons, Roads and Bridges, and Emergency respondents have all seen massive cuts since 2008. It just seems that we are now reaping the results of terrible fiscal policy in Oklahoma. The saying that was on our license plates years ago "Oklahoma! OK!" is kinda ironic in hindsight. Also when I read this The director of the LGBT rights group Freedom Oklahoma, Troy Stevenson, said Tilghman is the same man who distributed flyers across Oklahoma City earlier this year warning of demons taking over people's bodies I was reminded of this which is wigging me out because where it was found is about the right area mentioned in the article.
Yes, because this totally happens in other countries as well. What's with this paranoia
It's not paranoia when people are actively proclaiming their intentions to ban guns...
... and it actually has happened in other countries...
God I wish gats were as easy to get as cars. I'd love to hop on ebay and buy one and have it shipped right to me. It'd keep shit so simple.
Name more than 3 actual western democracies where guns have total bans
Do you want you move the goal posts any further or add anymore qualifiers to your question? Pretty much every western democracy has incrediblely strict gun control to the point where ownership is effectively undoable unless youre rich or really want to hunt. Theres no sporting culture or events and is universally looked down upon. You cant really argue that gun control is a slippery slope. Its not a subtle paranoia, its a well stated ideal.
again with the car = gun comparison
Good on em for stopping a killer. Every time the debate comes up can't we just be happy that it was avoided? Gun bans wouldn't have helped as he was security with access to firearms regardless of a general civilian ban.
In my opinion, there are 3 broad options in terms of guns: Total freedom to own them with the highest level of fatalities A reasonable level of restrictions, like a psychological test and licence with a moderate amount of fatalities Total ban with the lowest, but still appreciable level of fatalities In the UK, we essentially have a total ban, and London has actually had 50 murders by gun this year, although a lot of this is due to massive cuts to policing. Still, it's an impossible problem to solve entirely. I'm not going to tell America what they should do on this matter, but I am personally glad we don't have many guns here at all except for in farmers' hands, and I would prefer it to stay that way so we don't have another mass shooting like we last did in 1996.
