A shame, it's actually pretty good, like, way better than it has any right to be.
That’s sad because I actually thought it was the best one out of the new Star Wars series.
It was better than I expected but still kind of eh
It did seem like Disney sent it out to die. The first trailer was only three months ago, and then they released the film with Infinity War still in theaters.
It came out a few weeks after one of the biggest films of the year, if they released it a little later it may have made a little more money but, shit, there are some cinemas that will have Solo, Infinity War and Black Panther in.
It's an ok movie with no actual Han Solo in it. Considering it's supposed to the event movie of May over anything else cause Star Wars, being a fine movie isn't really going to cut it.
Also nobody asked for this movie to be made, it's a literal vanity project.
this whole movie was one big PR disaster, im not surprised it's failing in theaters. our best hope at this point is they find their stride with spin-offs (maybe if Rian has full control over his own story it could actually be better than the meh-fest that was last jedi), much like how marvel had a dip in quality for a few years before they started getting a bit better recently
I still think that it's fucking weird that the film had zero marketing. Like, up until maybe 4 months before it released had anything come out outside of a poster with a single word on it.
inb4 they scrap the boba fett movie people actually did ask for because solo ~proves that kind of thing obviously doesn't sell~
that's what happens when you very publically fire your original directors, reshoot over half the movie, and still have to deliver on time
I think Ep8 didn't help. Of all my group of friend, only one accepted to see it. Turns out he liked it, too. The others don't even want to give Star Wars a chance, ever.
Why would you want a Boba Fett movie, though.
I really like the criminal underworld in Star Wars, ive thoroughly enjoyed any video game that used it as a setting and a movie about a bounty hunter seems like an excellent way to explore that setting in film.
Sounds like a great idea imo, Boba Fett is such an iconic character despite doing literally nothing in any of the films- so i think it would be cool if he gets a chance to be a badass in a movie about blasting space criminals, without faffing around with the jedi and the force.
not gonna lie, a boba fett movie in the same vein of dredd would own bones
Not surprised. I saw it last night at 7:30 and the theatre was only like 15% full. It was way better than it had any right to be, as someone else said. I was pleasantly surprised. Not a perfect movie, and it doesn't do anything groundbreaking, but it was enjoyable.
Boba Fett basically isn't a character, though. He's basically a helmet. That's not to say that the characters in the OT were all amazingly deep and fleshed out - but they were definitely distinct, and had personalities.
I'm probably biased since I would honestly prefer if they just dropped making Star Wars movies in general, but I think this habit of constantly bringing back figures from the originals is even worse. Boba Fett wasn't meant to be a fleshed out character, and we don't need to know that he grew up on Utakbuk-Oh in the 76ABXYZ system, and what he did the first 30 years of his life. This insistence on back stories is a malpractice in my opinion. Just make something completely unconnected and also in the SW universe, at least.
Disney would never do anything that awesome. It's not safe enough.
No one's asking for that though. People just want an action/adventure movie where the guy with the cool helmet and the jetpack does cool shit and deals with criminals.
Besides, we already know Boba Fett's origins, he was in the prequels.
If this movie ends up getting worse draw in Box office revenue than the Bumblebee prequel reboot in December I'm gonna scream bloody murder.
It was okay, everyone I talked to before it came out had a general vibe that it would be bad. I saw it at midnight release, and eh. I think it will do better on DVD than it will in the cinema.
Good, fuck Disney, and Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy for ruining the franchise since the Last Jedi.
Well, on the bright side it sounds like I'll be able to get tickets after all.
Exactly.
I really like the MCU and went to see Infinity War on the opening week, Deadpool 2 too and now a week later Solo? And at the end of the month? Who has money for this kind of cinema visiting?
Probably going to see it in the coming week, but still, bad timing and shitty marketing. Not even going for the Solo part, I want to see Donglover.
You will never, ever, ever, ever, get a violent, gritty, bloody, Dredd-style Star Wars movie. Ever. Let alone a Boba Fett movie.
Violence and grit do not fit in the Disney brand.
yeah tbh episode 8 was a giant "meh" for me -- it couldn't decide what the fuck it wanted to do and kept introducing subplots which immediately became pointless
poe leads a heroic attack on the imperial ships, except it was actually just stupid and they lost all their bombers and a bunch of fighters, and now leia and purple-haired idiot's escape plan is to (a) fly straight forward and (b) wait to die
finn and asian girl go to a casino planet to find an extremely specific codebreaker so they can break into the imperial ships and shut down the tracking device, but can't find him
except they did find him
purple-haired idiot takes command because leia is unconscious and she puts everyone on shuttles to fly straight forward so they can wait a little longer to die, so poe mutinies, which lasts about 90 seconds because leia isn't unconscious anymore
finn and asian girl and imitation benicio del toro go shut down the tracking device, except they're captured because imitation benicio del toro betrayed them
it turns out purple-haired idiot's actual secret master plan was to get on cloaked shuttles and go to an abandoned base that just happens to be straight ahead, except they're getting blown up now because imitation benicio del toro told the imperials about the cloaked shuttles
at this point, the entire last hour of the movie has been rendered pointless
purple-haired idiot sacrifices herself to ram the imperial flagship, except it doesn't help because the imperials are coming anyway
now instead of (1) sitting on a ship and waiting to die or (2) flying on shuttles and waiting to die, the 10 surviving rebels are now (3) hiding in a bunker behind a giant steel door on hoth SALT PLANET, except the imperials have AT-ATs and a giant siege cannon which can instantly delete the giant steel door
finn, asian girl and poe drive out to attack the siege cannon in snowspeeders SALT SPEEDERS, and they all immediately fail
finn prepares to redeem himself for being a coward and sacrifice himself to stop the siege cannon, except asian girl rams him out of the way ~for love~ and the cannon fires anyway
so when the credits roll, bsaically nothing's happened. the entire movie was nothing but subplots and side sequences, none of which had any effect and all of which were immediately neutralized, and ultimately nothing changed except rey and kylo's relationship developing a tiny bit
i saw episode 8 on dvd a few weeks ago and i don't plan to see episode 9 or solo or any of the other spinoffs, the new star wars is just an empty husk that disney is milking for money
I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't want an R rated Star Wars film to happen.
I get the appeal for it, but it feels like it'd just end up being too jarring a shift.
Bad timing mixed with bad PR about the way it was made and the fact that a lot of people hated The Last Jedi has got a lot to do with this.
I think Star Wars fatigue is already starting to set in.
The prequels weren't that shit but it was always hype when one would come out, only cause it was like a once in a three year event. They're just making these off an assembly line and it loses its charm.
Me neither.
Hey remember when they hired Tarantino to make a Star Trek movie
