What happened to my New Thread button? I wanted to post a video in the Videos subthread but my button is gone, and is gone from Fast Threads, too. What happened?
From Hezzy in Forum Reports:
"Only people who have migrated accounts are able to create threads for now. It'll be in place until we have a system set up for new user thread verification"
It was because of the incredibly massive sudden influx of Korean spambots.
As above. It' a temporary measure until some proper systems are coded.
Ah okay, ty
Has it already been removed? A presumably non migrated account managed to post goatse
I'm sure you can just make a new account on oldpunch then immediately migrate it to a new account here
I already ask that question days ago. So yea kinda late.
any trouble could be saved by admins actually making a post about it
What's stopping the spambots from hitting General Discussion or any subforum that we can post threads in?
Nothing, but those sections we really can't put that into effect. Sections like rust have new members posting threads about problems or gameplay all the time, and our stopgap measure would kill all of that very quickly and piss off a lot of people who paid money for that game.
We can handle a spambot or two hitting the handful of forums that don't have that implemented, and this helps narrows it down to just a handful of forums instead of the whole forum. This is literally a stopgap measure until more can be implemented. .
I'm pretty sure you guys already considered this, but what about having a recaptcha for new accounts and when users make new threads? V3 of Recaptcha has an "invisible" version so regular users shouldn't see that much of a difference after it's implemented.
Well it's been nearly two weeks and I've had a few threads/posts I wanted to make in the meantime bu couldn't, so this kind of fucking sucks :/ Some subforums are deemed worth the risk, but not others? Fucking Videos is too dangerous?
I've removed the "migrant" tag requirement so all users should be able to make threads again
Hopefully we don't get too hammered by spambots
Excitement.
Also, pardon my ignorance but if spambots are the issue, could it at least stem the tide if thread making had a level requirement?
That would just increase the amount of them that post generic single sentences in random threads. Only to level up rather than try to look like an actual member.
You can't level up from spamming
