There is absolutely no reason for these things not to be in the game right now. With Logic gates, sensors and push plates there would be way more uses for tech-trash and scraps.
We could make sensors that alert you if someone is near your base.
Push plates that open up all doors at once that hide shotgun traps behind them, perfect trap. And when it's done shooting the guy dead it closes the door he came in from if you can figure out the wiring required to make it work.
Item sorters so I don't have to do any of that myself anymore. Throw in your junk into a single box it throws it all around in preset boxes, assembles a new weapons kit in the locker.
And in general if you play smart you get to enjoy the benefits.
Of course don't make it do everything for the player, make a really simple set of logic gates that would make the player figure out how to make them work together properly so they do his bidding.
It's just not something they're focusing/wanting in the game right now; hence it being in the "later" section of the roadmap.
But I understand what you're getting at. Electricity will be a major update and will ofcourse require a lot of time, polishing and balancing, so they're pushing it aside for now and focusing on other smaller things to be released at a quicker rate.
Roadmap
Whoa that might get me to look past the horrible community and Frankenstein features and actually get me to buy the game.
Well They should really speed that one up to the front. Many people have jobs and I was only able to play rust at any level because I got a weeks vacation.
They should enable players to solve sorts of "puzzles" to make their base more efficient and if you're really smart you could set up a system that lets you gain resources while offline.
They had something for that, it was called a Mining Quarry... Before they decided to remove 'em and make it a POI (Point of interest) on the map for a reason I am yet to find out...
Would be cool to have the ability to have a sort of conveyor belt, or some sort of "pipe" work that transfers the required upkeep resources from your boxes, to your TC. Seeing as we have only so many slots in our TC, and high demanding bases would require constant attention of replacement of our "Upkeep cost". So it'll be nice to have something in place for that.
I played back when quarries were a thing now they're pretty much useless.
Don't you have to stand around for the same time it took to mine something back then? Because those would be left unattended for up to 12 hours and still run.
Exactly, before you log make sure your quarry was secure, have enough fuel and log for the night. Now, that's not a thing.
I am sorry for going against the stream here but Rust needs less technology not more. Automated item sorting, furnace feeding and electricity isn't the answer to the current woes. Every time Facepunch tries to beef up the player base by adding something new and better, it only causes a short term increase then drops away again. They seem to be pandering to the throw away society we live in as so many players always want newer, better, NOW!
In my humble opinion, Rust needs to get back to survival. Technology in all forms makes things easier, way too easy in a lot of cases. If the game is easier to play then people will only be interested in PVP to give them a challenge as the heli, scientists and Bradley are solo tasks now. If people only want to PVP, then they will want to join together so they don't get killed all the time. Thus the ongoing issue of clans and zergs.
I hear the sighs from the casual players. Of course there are many modded servers that allow casual gaming with things like no decay, anti-raid, gathering increases etc. The other option is to run your own private server which is extremely easy to do and offers great gaming for the solo player.
In the long term I don't believe Rust will get to the "Holy Grail" of no wipes, long term survival. To achieve this players would have to adapt to a slower paced game. Gathering , researching and crafting taking longer. Plants growing slower, healing taking time and resources not respawning.
Please don't get me wrong, I love Rust. The continual demand for newer and better is at the detriment of the game.
I also would like some simple logic gates, but no shift registers and stuff ^^
@Eleven
Electronics would solely help the 25 year old players who are smarter than the usual squeeker, but don't have squeeker time to play the game.
Figure out how to make the electronics components work in your general area then go sleep, pick up your work done in the morning. All the Eleven year old can keep to their survival game if they can't figure any of that out.
What attracts me to Rust is the basic, raw, survival-ish tint. Things like keypads, and video turrets rather push back the limits too much already. What works in other SF games is too much here and adding items that are trendy now risks upsetting the balance and make the game a colourless amalgam
You are alone or near alone on a island filled with nuts and criminals by the looks of it. Add options to enrich the gameplay, rather then new baubles.
"Add options to enrich the gameplay"
"But don't add actual gameplay, oh god no"
Whats your problem boy?
My opinion: Automated traps?? Hell yeah! Sorting system?? Oh hell naw... Why no sorting system? It just feels off in this game, reminding me of Minecraft and those modpacks. Technology is cool, but I don't want to see a factory automating everything. Just imagine a turret that would be fed with infinite bullets :/
Yes and if people build weird acting stuff or similar, it will cost most of performance just bc people make crazy sorting systems with it ^^
I doubt it'll be anything too fancy upon initial release. As stated in brief
A system of logic gate deployables that controls the flow of electricity. When electricity reaches an entity it can react. Allow players to do things such as place pressure pads that when triggered open or close doors and turn lights on.
It'll just be basic, so as said "Pressure Pads" "Auto Doors" "Lighting System"
Then hopefully as time goes by, it doesn't get too "High Tech"
You can do pretty whack stuff with just the basics.
The "puzzles" for the rad towns in this coming update lay the ground work for this sort of thing.
Fuse boxes which give you a limited connection time. On/off switches to activate card swipe doors. Then actually getting to use the card on the door when its got power.
That's way different than electronics matey.
Absolutely different way to code it.
