• Why is Garry being purposefully obtuse about the forum development?

Discuss: why we're getting new, useless features we don't need why we've waited for more than a month and only gotten "deal w/ it" why users are treated like children why garry thinks that a few million pounds make him a good web designer why hezzy pretends he's trying to fix any of this why the forums are objectively worse than they were AT THE START OF THIS TRANSITION Why?

I do agree we'd be in a better position if he had focused on essential forum functionality before worrying about experimental ideas. Experimenting is good! But not when it comes before, like, everything else.
This is garry we're talking about. he would rather force his move to the new forums than spend time patiently putting it together and making sure it's not broken first, to begin with. Anything beyond that and I might start getting fairly uncharitable.
I feel that Garry himself doesn't really have an investment in the forums as a user/community member, so he doesn't care enough about fucking things up.
I personally would like some more openness in what is going on in the development. Changes happen out of the blue and in a none scheduled way.
Just be thankful we actually have a new forum that isn't running VBulletin anymore and effort is being put into something which for Facepunch, will actually yield no financial gains other than very low key marketing advantages.
That would imply anything garry does is planned in advance
Shower-thought, actually one on the pipeline for a while A second subdomain for forum changes that might be on the pipeline. Basically your beta and release branch But it's also like, are the forums going to be updated enough to warrant making a dev build online? Maybe if we actually opened sourced some parts of the forum. That was the plan for the old forum redesign anyway
Deal with it
Is this survivor's bias where you think that just because you're successful, you're always correct? Swallow your bloated fucking ego for 5 minutes and acknowledge that there's a ton of changes that you've made that are bad. Objectively, universally and with the full consensus of the community - bad. Acknowledge that there are things that need fixing before adding new features that detract from the experience of using these forums. Put some fucking thought in what you're doing.
It was nice knowing you.
It's his forum, and he can do whatever he wants to do with it. I know that sounds shitty, but that's always been the default response whenever someone complains about the forum.
I personally think the new forum is ugly as fuck and broken in so many ways. So many little *shouldn't happen* mistakes. But eh. Thats just my opinion eh. https://i.imgur.com/6QveP4m.png
Maybe I'm just too passive when it comes to criticizing, but I have no idea what "objectively bad" changes you're talking about. The worst thing I ever had to deal with was the mobile CSS and that was already mostly fixed. What matters to me is that the forum functions as a forum, and it does.

Wait, are we angry because there are thumbnails now?
when garry doesn't like thing, people get banned for no reason, or get banned and told they have "no sense of humor" or "no rights". May want to edit that comic to reflect on that reality.
no thanks I'm good
i like the new forums i just wish i could report rabid shitposters without having to post in a thread or post in a discord channel
literally all I want is reporting

No, we're angry because garry fucks shit up and then just tells people to suck it up when they don't like shit changes.
Did you join Facepunch yesterday because it has always been like this, what do you expect
Nah, I know that's the case, I just replied because I wasn't sure if Paul-Simon knew the reason why people are being pissy at the moment
All we need is a read thread button
well you also aren't specifying what's changed that you dislike. All I've seen in the past few months is the new thumbnails and the mobile CSS getting marginally better over time.
Threads in child subforums are visible when you look at the parent subforum, clogging up the view and making it harder to find new threads for games/content that doesn't belong in any child subforum Pretty much nobody liked this change when it was introduced, Garry's response to the feedback was to go on a vacation
The hero we need but don't deserve
