The Ouya 2 is looking good.
I genuinely think it's a neat looking console, a little wary of that Dpad and the voice command bullshit though. Seeing as it's linux based I wonder how easy it'd be to load up other games/emulators on this thing?
I'm sure it'll be relatively easy, or at least somewhat easy to install homebrew on it, but what emulators it can run all depends on the specs and architecture. Hopefully they're smart and make it an extremely versatile platform for that sort of thing, but this is Atari we're talking about, so I'm not holding my breath. The design is pretty cool, but I'm not too interested in playing 30+ year old games that I can easily emulate on my PC connected to my TV, I'm not sure if there's much of a market for this outside of the group of people who are nostalgic towards Atari games. Don't get me wrong, I did actually play the 2600 quite a bit when I was young, but I grew up during the Nintendo/Sega years and Atari just never really drew me in. I'm sure it was great during its time but I just don't think the last few generations will be interested in it.
If it's got a decent GPU then I might get one for Wine games.
So I see "over 100 classic atari games" which isn't bad at all, but what new games exactly?
Honestly, i really love the design they are going for. its really refreshing to see a retro inspired style that isnt "WOAH RADICAL RETROWAVE". However, I'm a bit scared this might end up like ouya. At least it isnt android based
I'm gonna order one just for my mother; her 2600 is still in the attic and I think she would love it.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but aren't these fairly good specs? (The page lists $250 for the console itself and $199 for early buyers) If the linux thing is true then this might be a good option for a lightweight "PC console" that isn't a Steam Machine or something.
Ouya 2
if i could run windows on it only then would it be worth getting linux is NOT a gaming platform just yet no matter how much you want it to be
Depends what you would call a "gaming platform". I personally wouldn't switch from Windows to Linux for a lot of reasons, gaming included, but to a lot of people being able to emulate a large range of consoles is enough to call it a "gaming platform". I've also seen some indie titles support Linux too but they're pretty rare. Windows is definitely way ahead of Linux when it comes to supported games though, that's probably what you meant.

There's a lot more native Linux games than you think.
Yes and No Linux isn't that great if you want the latest AAA games or support. That being said theirs plenty of emulators out there that will run on linux fine, almost for every platform, which is fine for what this is for. I'd want atleast another 4GB before I would want bloat Windows to run on it.
