How do I digitize my cat?
You'll need 3 photos: one from the side, one from the front (ears forward), and one of the back of the ears. Don't bother your cat too much about it, you can fix their pose in Photoshop. Download the template here: cat.psd
First, import the side photo. Try to get the general size and alignment right before right-clicking the layer and rasterizing:

Next, use the eraser tool to erase the background of the image so it's easier to see what you're doing. You don't have to be perfect. Also, since their head is in a different part of the texture, you can chop it off.
Then, go to Edit > Puppet Warp. You may want to change the point density up on the top bar. Place a point on the edge of your cat, and then drag it to that same point on the template cat. Start by straightening out their back (this is with "Show Mesh" toggled off):

You'll have to get pretty creative with stretching your cat over the template. You want to make sure that your cat covers the entire template, otherwise there'll be seams. It's okay to over-stretch.

Once you've got a decent stretch, press the check mark to save your changes. At this point, you'll want to do some touching up with stamp tools and spot-healing, to remove the gaps between legs and also to take off the old collar:

Repeat the process with the head photo and ear photos. Try not to feel bad as you mangle their face.
At the end, you'll want to paint over the edges of your photos to make sure that if there are any seams, they won't stand out:

Remember, you don't want to see any part of the template except for the solid colors by the time you're done.
And that's it! If you've got the know-how, you can save as tga for use with VTFEdit, replacing "materials/models/cat/cat.vtf" to test it in-game. Congratulations, you have digitized your cat.

Too late for me by going on 4 years. And any pictures I had of her that would have been suitable were lost in my old hard drive. There doesn't happen to be something similar that would work for pictures of a Pomeranian huh?

It wouldn't be accurate b/c the face texture is mirrored down the middle on the model and his cat's fur pattern isn't symmetrical.

I could do it for one of my 2 late cats but it wouldn't do them justice unless you could somehow make the cat model twice as fat

My cat is terrified of my camera lmao. The little whirring sound it makes when trying to focus gets him all riled up.

Cat texture randomization is in! Doesn't mean this is a deadline or anything like that, with how it's set up we'd only need to edit the models to include the new skins and they'd work right away, and we still got 26 slots for skins left, so if you got more then 1 cat, don't feel afraid to try to do this with 'em all!
The texture is only 512x512. Don't worry - none of the cats are very high quality.
Gotta see if I can find a decent image of my old cat, swear I've got a few I could use.
