Idiots. Pretty much every economist will tell you tariffs hurt a nation. The only people who will support them are those ignorant of the damage and those that will gain financially (at everyone else's expense) from them.
I'm all for all industry being home grown, but it's idealistic and unrealistic to the point of being lunacy. You need allies to function in the modern world.
OK, now I'm seeing a pattern. I would not be surprised at all if Mr. Turnip is working with the Russians and China to destroy America's grip on world trade. Not even the biggest fucking idiot in government would EVER tariff their own allies for no good reason.
But... America first!!!
We all know that this will hurt the economy. The question is, who is actually benefiting from this? Who greased the wheels on this decision being made?
The fucking balls... “We don’t want a trade war,” Ross was quoted as saying. “(It’s) up to the European Union to decide if it wants to take retaliatory measures. The next question would be: how will the (U.S President Donald) Trump react? You saw his reaction when China decided to retaliate." “If there is an escalation it will be because the EU would have decided to retaliate,” he added.
Imagine forming a full on revolution against insurmountable odds in response to a variety of tariffs and taxes(at least partially), achieving the nigh-impossible and subsequently laying the foundation of the world's first true democracy, one that has lastednearly 250 years; only for Donald Fucking Trump to dismantle its entire legacy.
I wonder if this will affect Britain when we leave the EU. I saw a video showing how continental drift is going to affect the countries of the world the other day, and the UK just flew up into the extremes of the northern hemisphere, so it seems even our geography is pro-Brexit.
It's like slapping an old friend in the face and telling them "if you slap me back it's your fault!" So incredibly stupid.
Trump was alive during Watergate, he might just be that much of a moron.
Let's hope that EU will calculate everything right, and hit the swing states/marginal states, so that republicans will be politically weakend that way. Although, they could pull it different way, and make people not angry at the orange ape and republicans, but EU, which would then be really bad. Either way, USA's international image (in view of it's allies) is only dimishing; and this rollercoaster is suppose to last 2 more years, by that time everyone won't trust US with anything
At the rate Trump is burning literally everything down, we'll have a completely clean slate by the time he's done. The country will be absolutely wrecked beyond belief and maybe we'll have a civil war -- but with so much destruction comes the opportunity to rebuild everything much stronger than it was before with the wisdom of hindsight.

Pretty sure EU had retaliation tarifss planned back then when they first planned to do it. US just backed away for a while. So this will probably continue now, wonder if EU sticks with those "red state industry" targeted tariffs though or if they do more.
Steel and aluminum manufacturers (rent-seekers) and ideological idiots who think domestic industries are an inherent good.
Looks like Trump's aluminium/steel tariff bluff, in order to extort slanted NAFTA adjustments, gets called by his own stupid short deadline. Time for everything made in the US out of metal to get more expensive, just in time for the midterm elections.
Well done, you just sanctioned yourself.
Even if the US suffers because of this I'm sure FOX will find a way to spin it so its actually the fault of Syrian refugees or something.
Democrats' fault; even though it's Trump unilaterally deciding to fuck with NAFTA and employ tariffs on national security(lol) grounds. Well, the official justification is national security, which is basically a blank check under WTO rules, but he's clearly doing it for non-natsec reasons.
"Look man, I punched you, but if you punch me back I'm just gonna punch you harder, so be the bigger man and walk away."
Donald Trump and his collection of increasingly unqualified stooges, versus the experienced statesmen of three (sort of) countries (and one stroppy baby island). Trump. Back the fuck down already.
Probably the latter. The question in that case is to what extent the economy will be destroyed before making that decision
President Wheatley.
simply getting dumbass cuntnip out of office would more than triple the worlds trust of the US
There is never a real winner either way, except for being able to make the starting party drop the shit. Hurts on both sides, usually more for the starting party. If we are lucky Trump pulls away quick while trying to spin it as a victory that "showed them" who is the boss. (Quote me if that actually happens. )
Canada hits back at U.S. with dollar "We will continue to make arguments based on logic and common sense and hope that eventually they will prevail against an administration that doesn't always align itself around those principles," said Trudeau.
Can we please get him out of the fucking presidential office?
Reminder: this comes just over a month after Trump cut back sanctions on Russian aluminum U.S. eases sanctions on aluminum firm tied to Russian oligarch At this point it would actually be less blatant collusion if Trump were to confess live on national television because at least then people would have trouble believing it.
