While Amazon has opted out, eBay has confirmed it is making major changes to its global systems so that Australian shoppers can still buy items from anywhere in the world.
"We won't block Aussie buyers, redirect them or require them to pretend they are located overseas. Australians will continue to be able to buy from any eBay site," a spokeswoman said.
At least eBay is still available.
Look, not great but GST is the GST. You can't make exceptions (except for the things that are exempt).
thank u based mr harvey
And the Australia will not even notice.
In my opinion, Amazon is a highly overrated website.
I'm sure in Aus it's shit, but in the US it's honestly a god-send
This is what you lot get for centuries of shitposting
US Amazon's been pretty helpful to me for stuff I wasn't able to get anywhere else, so I guess that option's just gone now. Nice.
Not many places I can get 1-day shipping of pretty much anything at such a good price.
Amazon is so good in the US that I buy basic home necessities from it, as long as I don't need them immediately. It's usually just as cheap, and the inconvenience of having to physically carry products from the store and take them on the bus significantly outweighs Amazon's 48-hour-max wait time.
Why don't Australia and Amazon just do what happens in Finland?
You either:
Pay the tax yourself as a customer to customs, in order to get the goods
or
Amazon offers to only ship the goods via a logistics company that handles the taxation and customs for them (I believe both DHL and UPS offer this, I know DHL offers the service in Finland)
Amazon is something else if you live in a big city in North America. I can put an order in at 10 am and have my dragon dildo at 3 pm on the same day.
Imagine not wanting all that business because you don't want to add GST functionality to the website, like the amount of money they will lose because of this is just stupid.
If you want to earn some cash quick make a middleman service that allows people to buy from US amazon and then have it first shipped to you
Gonna' have to disagree with you there. There aren't many places I can order a new video card, keyboard or microphone and have it delivered the next day. Usually they have the best prices I can find, too.
as if living in australia wasn't suffering enough, we really do get shafted on the amazon train. the AU store is shit, ebay is the preferable online shopping destination by far for us aussies
From what I understand, not only is everything massively more expensive, but you also have like waaay less variety of things.
Aus is just shit for electronics
It’s not a big loss. Yeah sure, we can’t order many things from the Amazon US site now, but even before Amazon made this announcement, they wouldn’t have shipped 9 out of 10 things from the US site to Australia anyways. Amazon has always been terrible for Australians.
I looked at amazon once to see some shoes or something - they all looked fake as fuck
