I really don't know what to say.
Beyond that's a problem that needs to be sorted if churches not hosptials are stepping in to become healers.
At least there's something to pick up the slack.
What would be worse is people lacking healthcare in any capacity.
Provided of course they're not trying to convert people on their deathbed or being discriminatory in who they help.
Though, I do feel like in this situation they're above that sort of thing.
The church wouldn't dare try that, they're aware they're rapidly falling out of relevancy in the UK and are actually trying to improve their image by actually helping those in need and standing up for the poor. Y'know the kind of shit anyone that calls themselves Christian should do. The church here can't be lazy anymore or they'll be gone in a decade or so.
I hate to turn this into an American thread but in the flyby states churches essentially play the role of soup kitchen/homeless shelter because the state governments are either to poor (roughly half of Greece's GDP poor) or are too completely inept to provide a decent public service that isn't federally paid for.
It's also a decentralization thing. That's a large part of why churches are so important to rural life, it's because it's necessary and convenient to use them for those purposes.
faith based agencies determining your healthcare.
see every state with TRAP laws, california, and every state with Religious Objection protections on the book for hospital workers.
nobody should be forced to take a healthcare option because someone else's bible is telling them to.
I know the NHS is stretched, but I am so incredibly thankful for them. I live in Stevenage, and Lister hospital has some of the most lovely nurses and doctors, and I've always been seen promptly. I go to hospital quite a lot because of a permanent disability, so I just don't know what to say other than that it's amazing to have access to it.
The sooner we get a government that actually cares about public healthcare as anything other than something to stick on the chopping block, the better.
Ain't just the flyover states. Here in NJ a whole bunch of churches also serve as food pantries.
... Ended up hitting up a few ourselves for a while. Still go to one every week.
