WASHINGTON — President Trump said he planned to issue a pardon on Thursday to Dinesh D’Souza, a conservative author and commentator who pleaded guilty in 2014 to making illegal campaign contributions.
“He was treated very unfairly by our government!” Mr. Trump said in a Twitter post.
I can't say I'm surprised really.
This is pretty blatantly politically motivated. Why isn't there a law against using presidential pardons to aid your own political party?
This is just hilariously blatant lmao what the fuck
Why is the president even allowed to just pardon people like that. Some worthwhile pardons surely happen, but the idea that some person should simply have the power to circumvent the courts is kinda retarded. If you need someone to arbitrarily pardon people, you should fix your laws and courts instead.

If you've already pleaded guilty, it's stupid that you're able to be pardoned. If I pleaded guilty to something like murder, the President shouldn't get to pardon me. Like, I know: Murder and illegal donations aren't anywhere near the same level of wrongdoing, but still, just saying. You've plead guilty to some sort of wrongdoing.
Dinesh is a total scumbag who willfully spreads lies so this makes total sense.

He pleaded guilty himself and he still gets pardoned?
you can't get pardoned unless you plead guilty iirc
I'm more thinking that pleading guilty is pretty much going "Yeah you guys are prolly right I did some shit, gg too bad i didn't get away with it I guess".
Reminder that, in the past, presidential pardons have actually followed a process in which presidential advisors research and investigate the proposed pardonee and determine if a pardon is appropriate.
Trump thinks the presidency is an absolute dictatorship the way being a CEO of a private company is, of course, and no one will be surprised to learn that he makes decisions on his own and doesn't consult anybody about them. The pardon power is a very important aspect of the US system but Trump is basically an actual tyrant, or wants to be, and he's discovered the power of abusing pardons for personal and partisan ends.
Disgusting.
Joe Arpaio was pardoned and he never pleaded guilty
You can be pardoned when a conviction is entered, guilty plea or not. See Trump's unusual and highly inappropriate pardoning of Joe "Pink Underwear Concentration Camp" Arpaio before he even began serving his sentence for contempt of court for explicitly refusing court orders to stop violating racial profiling and violating human rights.
You can be damn sure the next gop president after Trump will try to pardon him if he goes to prison.
Because they probably didn’t think that far ahead.
Can't pardon state crimes, and I'm pretty sure there'll be a raft of state charges waiting to be brought against Trump in NY and possibly elsewhere, on top of federal charges.
The LAW AND ORDER president ignores law and order.
He was treated very unfairly by our government! Very very mean! Big Poopy head democrats are big meanies!
Make it a hate crime on a Hispanic or Middle Eastern person and I’m sure you’d be pardoned.
Maybe I'm giving him too much credit, but what if this is a trial run off pardoning Cohen? To see if he can get away with it? "If I pardon Cohen, he won't have to say anything."
This is all about setting precedents for what pardons he's allowed to receive.
This is a very bad omen.
Whenever I see something said by Ted Cruz, I just watch this video and it cheers me up:

I think the most blatant pardon in history was when Ford pardoned Nixon. His approval rating dropped through the roof as a result of that decision. Ah... the days when most people weren't purely partisan.
One pile of shit pardoning another pile of shit. What a shock!
Not a very good example, plenty of people have pleaded guilty to crimes they did not commit only to get exonerated at a later date.
I mean this particular cases is pretty clear, but I just wanted to throw out pleading guilty doesn't always equal out to being guilty.
That's certainly true, at least in respect to some of the coercive tactics detectives in the US use for people, breaking them down to a level at which they're almost forced to confess to a crime they've not committed.

Trump pardons the best people, I tell you, the best. Eveyone talks about how Trump's so smart about who he pardons.

The best people.
What a scum fuck. I hope court turns around and slaps state charges on him.
Pardon that, Presidente Naranja
I was aware of Dinesh a decade ago but I thought he was just a crank selling lies on the fringe of the party. but uh I guess that's closer to the center and heart of what republicanism is these days.
A lot of people plead guilty because they can't afford to fight back so pardons can be good but at the same time this is obviously a bullshit pardon.
Restrict pardons and remove the criminalization of weed and mandatory minimums and free everyone prosecuted under weed laws.
