It's pretty unusual for something to make me queasy. I've seen some pretty horrific things in my time on the internet and they pretty much never get to me. Dodgy eye surgery will do it though.
What would you even see during the procedure? I think your eyes still move if you're unconscious too. And the self control you'd need if you're conscious during that, good god.
Even for modern cataract surgery you're awake and see everything, you even have to move your eye to make it easier for the surgeon.
What was even the point if the patient is still blind afterwards

I think they'd still be able to see a little bit if they looked through a tiny hole in something. You can try this if you need glasses, just make a pinhole in a piece of paper and everything will be in focus through the hole.
I don't know if they did that in those days though.
Makes me think of some unknown brilliant BC dude who figured out how to make glasses for those people to see clearly.
