Did they name him Guts?
This is probably the least newsworthy thing ever but as a former crayfish owner I feel obliged to comment. They're cool little critters. Not surprised it would tear its own arm off. They do shit like that all the time. Seen two get in a fight and one got a few legs torn off and it's gills removed from it's body but walked it off like nothing happened. Hardy little things. https://youtu.be/gKwpq8mK67E He will grow it back.
Still, imagine seeing members of your own species boiling alive right in front of you. Poor little guy must be traumatized.
Believe me, it didn't care. My 3rd grade class had a bunch of crayfish. They all ganged up and ate each other. At least one was cannibalized each night until only the largest one was left. Then it crawled under a bookshelf and died where no one could reach it. The whole room reeked for weeks. That one in the OP probably more ripped its claw off from boredom than anything else.
Poor little guy...but you taste to good to not eat you..
crayfish are really amazing creatures... my friend had one... it managed to crawl out of its tank and go down 4 flights of stairs before he found it
The hamsters of the oceanic world.
I had a dope ass Crayfish once. Well I had two but he devoured the other one. Then he molted once but one of his arms somehow got deformed I guess? It ended up being nearly as long as the rest of his body so he had this giant creep-ass claw. Then he somehow managed to escape his tank and ended up down the hall from my bedroom. Thing was badass.
Dude he was trying to give you the claw.
I was literally considering getting a pet crayfish today and now the deal is sealed.
Go for the Australian Red Claw, it gets pretty big and it's blue.
