Imo this is a valuable political piece.
If the EU punishes Italy, it will reap the whirlwind | George So..
The outcome of the next Italian elections will greatly depend on how the EU responds to the turmoil in that country. There is a strong inclination in Europe to use the occasion to teach Italy a lesson. If the EU follows this line, it will dig its own grave by provoking a negative response from the Italian electorate, which would then re-elect the Five Star Movement and the League with an increased majority.
Rather than try to teach Italy a lesson, the EU should ask itself: what can Europe learn from the upheaval in Italy? Historically, Italy has always been the strongest supporter of the EU because Italians didn’t trust their own governments. And with good reason: those governments had a tendency to be corrupt and to follow policies that didn’t serve the interests of the people. But the EU must not punish the Italian people for the sins of its governments.
Hopefully this will put conspiracy theory enthusiasts mind's at rest. Soros ain't some sinister antagonist puppet master. He's looking for reasonable moderate reform. If all parties sought such evolution (as opposed to revolution) the EU would be far more preferable to everyone (cept putin and trump coz they want it weak)
Nope. This definitely won't. I don't think they would want to lose their perfect scapegoat and admit that they might have been wrong in the past.
I can only imagine them coming with another conspiracy theory about Soros working together with the mafia and that's why he wants Italy to be left alone.
Facts don't matter when it comes to these theories.
However, I do hope that the situation stabilizes a bit and people start being a bit more distrustful towards the far right parties.
everyone still equates soros with the kochs regardless of the fact that he does the essential opposite of what they do. he has some issues, but his work almost always involves getting out the vote programs, advocacy for democratic norms, and support for the masses not the elite, but people who engage in whataboutism don't exactly care about being accurate anyways
