This is very pretty and unique and all but the chromatic aberration dof makes some shots uncomfortable to look at.
I'm assuming that's an older Peter Parker, with that and him being older in the PS4 game I wasn't sure if I'd like an older Peter but it's definitely changing my mind. This looks pretty neat
Best parts of the comics was when he was in his early-mid 20s.
really into this aesthetic, looks great
The dof and cs need to die in a fire, but this actually the first time I've given a shit about Miles, probably because he doesn't know he has a literal cops and robbers NU UH I WIN button, that makes his "struggle" a complete farce. Kind of hard to complain about your double life when all you have to do is an instant ability that stops anyone in the MU dead in their tracks in one hit.
It might be less prominent in the actual film, they're just making it all flashy and fancy for the trailer
Can't even begin to describe how keen I am for this movie. Going to be so much fucking fun!
Man this looks good. I've never seen such a cool artstyle in a full length animation ever. The only thing that threw me off a bit was Peter Parker's voice but I can live with that.
That artstyle works so fucking well, there were literally moments where I thought it was 2D.
I'm excited to see other Spidey's in movies. And this is a visual treat.
this movie is pure eyecandy
this looks super cute
I'm excited, but that chromatic aberration is an eyesore.
i swear to god people will complain about shit simply because they know it exists
Not going lie, I'll probably see the movie for just that reason.
I think this is partially because they deliberately went with fewer frames during some sequences rather than the full 24.
I thought the CA and DoF weirdness was trying to make a 3D trailer
I have no idea wtf is going on in this trailer but the style is amazing.
wait hang on comic con is canon am I canon
Probably just for the trailer, but a funny joke nonetheless.
So like... is that CA gonna be there the whole time... or
I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw this
I saw this tweet which made the point that this film is making no attempt to emulate real life filmmaking https://twitter.com/coalsavoie/status/1004393798464622592 Which might sound really bad on surface level but I think it's really cool because it shows that the art of animation is constantly evolving. I would be super surprised if these techniques weren't somehow inspired by David O'Reilly's essay on Digital Animation Aesthetics. Or his work in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2YdJy0w66Y
I mean sure, but I'd rather they look out of focus than just hard to look at. I mean, I can't even describe it - I've never had a problem with chromatic aberration like that but the way it's used here just comes off as jarring. Like, it's actually hard to put focus on. Using alternative techniques in place of tradition is really dope, we need more of that - but not when it's as distracting as that. It does the opposite of DOF by drawing my attention and then making it uncomfortable to look at. My brain wants to focus on it but it can't. I mean trust me, I get it. Finding ways to break barrier and think outside the box is happening a lot more frequently in cinema and I'm happy to be living in such a time. But DOF exists because it mirrors how we perceive reality with our own eyes, thus we can naturally follow the subject in focus. I wouldn't even mind it occasionally! Using it to emphasize action is crazy cool, which they also do a lot - I just think that using it to replace DOF entirely is somewhat excessive imo. At any rate - the movie looks really fantastic. The animation and shading and color palettes are to die for.
the intention is to replicate the color printing mistakes often seen in old comics. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mc7XL5lHQi8/T-k3eDP7fmI/AAAAAAAAJM0/8UUe8OJTNLI/s1600/MesmerizedManSmaller.jpg.scaled.1000.jpg notice how the red ink is offset slightly down and left? this is what they are going for. whether it was actually well executed is up for debate tho.
I like the chromatic aberration. It's only a problem if you actively try to stare at things that are meant to be out of focus and thus unimportant.
