As the inner cabinet meets at Downing Street to thrash out the final details of the customs fall-back plan, Davis is expected to push for a firm end date to be included in the agreed text. Davis did not rule out resigning if the government’s proposals did not have his explicit approval. Cabinet sources confirmed that a four-page draft of the backstop proposal circulated to ministers had prompted the fresh row because it did not include a legally enforceable date. Just hours later Davis claimed that discussions over the document were still carrying on. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jun/06/customs-backstop-we-expect-a-time-limit-stresses-david-davis Number 10 had been expected to publish the "temporary customs arrangement" on Thursday, but faced resistance from Brexit Secretary David Davis. Word is that when David Davis quits his job, he expects to retain the benefits and privileges he currently enjoys being a Cabinet Minister.
He honestly thinks that's going to make the government more likely to give him his way?
Apparently so! https://twitter.com/danbloom1/status/1004699216529317889 So Theresa May got defeated twice in the space of today by David Davis of all people. She'll be happy to be off to Canada.
