RIP british car industry or making britain great again??
At the risk of sounding like a dick I think the brexit and Trump being voted in, were not the worst things that could have happened.
Because these populistic things happened (and are a huge failure), it might have opened people's eyes as to how bad they really are. A post-brexit UK toilet economy will be a great reminder of how much the EU has to offer countries. And the Trump government might even be responsible for getting Macron into the French presidency seat.
naw politicians will blame immigrants or the EU and English peeps will lap it up because that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Ahh yes, the rules of origin, also known as form of protectionism from the EU, yeah we all knew that was going to happen.
Protectionism can be a good thing. I'm no neo liberal. In my eyes protectionism helps prevent a race to the bottom where worker rights and wages are decimated to compete with places like India and China (China especially due to their dumping of steel) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/Leading_business_story/charts-that-show-why-china-really-is-to-blame-for-the-steel-crisis-a6978871.html
I have no faith in the public of this country to accept they made the wrong decision, no matter how bad things get.
