https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6kheRkaT7Q that setting though (location biased)
Errybody started getting wrecked, the boombox was just too powerful!
One would've thought that Simon Stålenhag was in on this but apparently he found out about it today too. The artstyle is really similar to his work
The location is cool and kinda neat to see an environment you can relate to but the fact that the enemies are robots despite the setting being in the 80s feel unimaginative and lazy. Could have made it about some fictional USSR invasion or something which would have been era appropriate but right now it feels really generic, the 80s are in again and robots are cool so let's just put that in our new game.
It feels like an empty version of Horizon Zero Dawn, which had a beautiful style going for it.
This basically seems stolen from Simon Stålenhag. It's too close to be coincidence.
I'm not even sure if he's even aware of this project, I've seen no mention of his name on the game site or anything related. The concepts, setting, style, theme are pretty much 1:1. I'm not sure whether to call this inspiration or plagiarism. I'd love to explore Simon Stålenhag's world, I just wished it was something more nuance, mysterious and exploratory than a co-op shooter.
There was also a Tabletop Dev Group who published, with official artwork by Simon Stalenhag who took part in the project called Tales From the Loop. It was successfully funded and is currently purchasable. I am trying to get a GURPS-like system off the ground and its 'flagship' title will be a setting inspired heavily by games like Megaman Legends, Ace Combat and Mass Effect with mechanical elements of XCOM, Shadowrun Returns, Fallout.
Trailer did not interest me that much, but as a HUUUUUUUGE Stålenhag fan i'll have to keep an eye on this
