>Sweden >80s >Carl Gustav M48 GRG >Robots >Clear inspiration from Simon Stålenhag 10/10
I'm dissapointed they're not military and we're playing as epic 80s youngters really takes away frm the atmosphere imo Up until you see the epic football chad and the punk girl OH YEAH XD it comes across as a pretty creepy scenario
Look at those DOGs.
https://twitter.com/simonstalenhag/status/1004739860652011520 Given how much the game seemingly builds on his art, I'd have expected Avalanche to at least give him a heads up or something
I literally said to my roomate it's the simon stalenhag game the moment I saw that parked cop car and the robutts. Judging by the trailer though it does look like it was inspired by him and not made by him, it doesn't have the atmosphere he's capable of bringing with his art. Perhaps they shouldn't have picked such a rural map.
I was hoping that this wasn't the case, Simon hasn't really stated how he feels about it, suffice to say that most of his followers think it was scummy that he wasn't contacted before this. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dubious about the whole thing.

I am so 50/50 on this game. While it looks good, and I tend to love the games Avalanche comes out with, and I fucking love the Simon Stalenhag aesthetic, the devs blatant refusal to at least acknowledge the inspiration and similarities is really shitty to me. Simon is probably my all time favorite artist and he deserves some credit for this.
Signed up for the beta. Hope the game delivers, I like the idea of it a lot
The game delivers. A few menu and inventory things are annoying, and hopefully will change come full release, but I love the atmosphere and the combat is fun. Played for a few hours with some friends tonight and we had a blast
they have a ton of little issues to iron out but I can see the potential in the beta the atmosphere is awesome and the game looks great visually
Has anyone gotten the multiplayer to actually work? I was trying last night with a friend and neither accepting an invite nor joining through steam seemed to do anything at all.
I got access to the beta a few days ago and I can't really say I'm super psyched. I really liked some aspects - like the environment (based Sweden :king:) - but I can't really get into the opposing robots. It's not satisfying killing them and they all seem to be pretty much the same. As @StrawberryClock said, it has many issues to iron out. But also, I think they need to add more things to the world to make it interesting
It took us a bit to figure out. Someone has to start one and then in the multi options set it to anyone can join. Then the other players click on multiplayer from the main menu and there's a friends menu somewhere. I think it might have been 't' to bring that up, it says at the bottom. Then you should see a big ol' list of all your steam friends alphabetically listed but you should be able to scroll down and find the 1 friend who is actually playing. WAYYY too overly complicated and non intuitive menus for doing that, that's one of the big things I hope will change in the full release.
I can see glimpses of smart tactical play by the bots but too often they'll just stand in the same spot shooting. The tank robot was pretty fun to fight though.
