Nearly 4 million adults in the UK have been forced to use food banks due to ”shocking” levels of deprivation, figures have revealed for the first time. An exclusive poll commissioned by The Independent reveals one in 14 Britons has had to use a food bank, with similar numbers also forced to skip meals and borrow money as austerity measures leave them “penniless with nowhere to turn”. This includes 365,000 children, with experts warning that social security policy changes under the Tory government were leading to “destitution by design”. Destitution is defined as people lacking two “essential needs”, such as food or housing.
Nearly half (47 per cent) had lacked basic toiletries, with 46 per cent lacking suitable clothing and 42 per cent having to go without heating. One in five destitute people reported lacking lighting at home, and 16 per cent had recently slept rough.
sounds like they need to stop buying iphones

Seriously, this country is being bled dry by austerity and the Tory government's other terrible policies and nothing I've seen is suggesting things will improve.
I've said it to people and I'll say it again: This country is FUCKED.
(if nothing changes)
Imagine if the people lining their pockets actually cared
I've had to use food banks a few times in the past couple of years because Universal Credit isnt enough to get by on.
Welp, this is the 'Big Society' Cameron was on about, right? Lovely.
Sadly with Brexit, a looming trade war and years of Tory leadership to come I really can't see this getting any better any time soon.
Honestly at the moment I'm just glad to have a job.
On top of all of the horrible shit the Tories are pulling, It doesn't help that the poorest in our society are being constantly painted as ~filthy scroungers~ by the right wing press. The conservatives can do whatever they want to poor people, even if victimising the poor costs more money than it saves it will still gain them votes because the right wing here cares more about being vindictive to any group they have decided gets to be ~the other~ than they do about being fiscally responsible.
I live in a Tory safe seat, and the food bank at my local tesco is constantly having the food intentionally spoiled by retards who think people going to food banks are lazy good for nothings who spent all their benefits on flash cars and televisions.
At first I thought the food was being spoiled by mistake because apparently there are idiots out there who didn't realise that putting ice cream cartons and frozen meat in a non refrigerated basket full of breakfast cereal, canned food, biscuits and bread was a bad idea.
But apparently it turned out to be a group of cunts who wanted to ~stick it to those workshy scroungers~ who went on to brag about it anonymously via a local Facebook group.
My dad refuses to accept that austerity is a thing, and his evidence comes from the fact we regularly walk past people wearing branded clothing & accessories etc. "If there was austerity, no one would be able to afford any of that! It's propaganda fuelled by socialist snowflakes!". OK then.
That's bollocks, why look at these dropping levels of unemployment!

This country would be better off if the current parasites in our just-barely elected government ceased to draw breath.
That's fucking appalling, I hope those guys get caught and smashed in the teeth, they're literally taking food out of people's mouths.
What the actual fuck.
Thatcher and Blair moving the country massively to the right happened.
Yeah i have a hard time imagining who would do such a thing.
Like i don't even mean because it's horrible. What i mean is, Who is well off enough to be buying whole tubs of ice cream or joints of meat just to waste them, but also yobbish enough to do something like intentionally ruin food donations out of spite?.
The facebook page where this shit was posted is run by complete twats, so they wouldn't ever expose whoever sent the posts in, because it was "amazing banter" and pissed everyone off. After the posts it caught on like a fucking trend or some shit for a few weeks. My girlfriend spotted tubs of ice cream defrosting in the foodbank and the staff at my local store basically told her it wasn't their problem and they didn't care enough to stop it happening or go and sort it out.
Reminds me of Repubs in the US. They took billions out of social security, Medicare, and other social programs, claiming they were going to start settling the US's debt. Then they say they want to increase the military budget by the better part of a trillion dollars

It's their job, they're paid by the military industry.
they don't actually care about balancing books, it's just useful rhetoric to string along the public who think economics work exactly like household finance. for as long as that myth persists we'll have malicious dickheads elected under the banner of 'sensible economics'.
there is nothing sensible about continued austerity.
hey britain are you actually retarded, like, have you learned NOTHING from what happened to America??
The powers that be seem to idolise the US, I'd say they've learned plenty.
the tories ideal world would be one where we pay massive taxes but everything is a ~volunteer force~, replacing all forms of welfare or social care or just about any kind of public service with charities.
i imagine some of them sat at home, reading this news and thinking "exactly as planned"
