Since Rust left EA, player count is down by about 11,000. Since then, FacePunch has introduced boats, scuba gear, underwater terrain, safe zone, chinook event, scientists... now today we get keycards and monument puzzles. Why? If you look at what most players want... not the REEEEEEEEE players, I'm talking about those of us that can actually form a coherent sentence... we want simple things like 100fps with our expensive graphics cards and RAM instead of 40fps, no lag spikes when we fire a weapon, the ability to close the game without having to end task. While I applaud your creativity and eagerness to add to the game, I question the motive. Are these things being added to Rust in an effort to pull some of these 11,000 players back in? Are these things being added to Rust to distract us from the fact that we can only get 40fps with rigs that are capable of twice or three times the performance? TL:DR - Stop adding all this bullshit in the game until the basics are sorted out like graphics optimizations. Don't say the game left EA when it clearly has not. I love Rust, I respect the FacePunch staff, but c'mon folks, you're capable of better. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110804/f8928d85-82fe-44ef-b376-5f7b690e3f01/image.png
You are so right! I believe in the old saying my grand mother used to tell me " Crap in ,crap out you stupid little cow"
The player count fluctuates depending on the time of the year. Also, there is a good chance that the fact that perma game bans are HWID based and as such people can't just repurchase Rust on a fresh account anymore is a factor. Also, some people might just take breaks to not get burned out on Rust. Its not like there is a subscription fee and as such you have to play constantly to maximize your entertainment to dollar ratio. I'm not saying things are perfect as they are. It just annoys me how people jump right to "oh, Rust is losing players because of "reason" " when there are other reasons.
What is this site?
There is a distinct pattern in player count averages, especially once you start looking at data since the launch of the game. Average players is the lowest it's been since 2015 for this time of year. That's a red flag. Rust is down over 7K players over this time last year, I'm not sure that there have been 7K players banned. All Im doing is asking why so much is being done to the game without addressing some of the blatantly obvious shortcomings. Not interested in a flame war!
most rust players hoped that rust would turn out to be a fps-game, all the complainings tells enough. So many people that saying: Rust was my game, but not anymore I guess. With this said, it's not weird that the playerbase "is going down", al those salty kids that tought they could push their influences to the devs are now realizing that they won't make it how they want, and all their posts about how they think the game should be where a waste of time. I'd rather see the population of rust die a lil bit, than keep all those toxic kids in the illusion the game will be better for them.
Didn't mean to seem like I was flaming. The active player count and how it fluctuates has come up a few other times as of recently. Usually when it's brought up it's with ulterior motives, like to try and convince the dev team that they are hemorrhaging players due to a feature the op doesn't like. I understand in this case you OP were just curious.
Play on lower settings and on a lower ping server, until then quit crying. If you knew the first thing about developement of a video game you would know that their is no point in optimizing anything if it is not even finished. Rust is out of early access, but it is by no means complete. Its still a rough draft they are constantly testing and balancing as well and introducing new things. Even if they were to optimize it right now all of it would be for nothing when the next update comes out which would only fuck your frames right back to where they were. You spell check the final copy, not the rough draft.
As a player since legacy came out, I was always happy with updates. I mean, not really happy but I was okay with updates. Only thing that facepunch need to do is using a better anti cheat ( obviously eac is not enough ) and imrpoving the fps. Rust left from early access just because of they run out of time. There is a time limit at Steam for EA games. Btw, I talked to a russian guy who is a cheat provider for many games and he said that he can lie to rust client and change his steam id. So he can play with other people’s account. for example let say your steam Id is 123 and his id is 456 when he join to a server? Server reads his steam id and then create a character for him. Then he plays with it. When he quit the game, his location and everything be saved by server to his ID. What he do is he go to your base. Findout your steam id. Then put your id to his id’s place and relogin to server. And boom! He wakes up like you in your base and he can open all the doors because he is playing with your character. Then he just stole everything and go outside of the base, put everything you have into his own sleeping body and relog with his account. Free loot! so, it doesnt matter even if you put rockets in game.. without protection they mean nothing
