If I was an oil boss sitting on a pile of money i'd be investing and digging my heels into every possible energy source imaginable so no matter what happens my company will still be alive when all the others died. It's the workers and management that is scared of change not the bosses.

That IS true. Pretty much being an octopus and extending and wraping your arms around all possible paths, fossil or renewable, which IMO at least is a great idea because you'd be future proof, as we will hopefully see in the future.

BUT... Then theres a long list of hand greasing with some Ben Franklins, and all that goes down the hole.

We can't make slight changes and have global warming suddenly shift slightly in turn, we need a massive change to society to just slightly reduce the effects.

Words mean nothing to oil / energy company owners unless it has cash strapped to it. Pope Francis isn't offering money with his message, he's delivering the same messages numerous people had told the companies to which the same companies had ignored even with evidence to support the idea that global warming exists.

But why do the companies ignoring / resisting the message? It's simply because they won't live long enough to have the effects directly impact their life, so they'll stick to what they know is already giving them their profit. And until it stops giving them a profit they'll plug their ears to all the people who keep spouting the message they don't care enough about anyway.

The problem boils down to company owners simply not caring, and the only thing Pope francis says is "Start caring". Not a very effective way of dealing with the problem.
