Meh, it does look more interesting than 4. Which I thought 4 was a stinker so I'm hopeful.
I'm stoked. Sure, game looks fairly different to what we're used to, but I've faith.
Gears 4 perfected the gameplay side of things imo, so ideally all they need to do this time is have a better story.
New designs for the characters look nice, JD's is a huge improvement, would love to know whats going on with his arm.
Also here's hoping that the multiplayer will have unlockable content and not have nearly everything behind loot crates.
Ugh, fucking hearing these kind of songs too much lately.
Generic female lead with ton of reverb? Check
Slow tempo? Check
Dramatic strings and piano? Check
"where are we going?"
"back to where it all began"
But you were clearly already travelling, you've been setting up a some sort of ice vehicle and done quite a lot of effort in preparation of going.
Did the guy really not think of asking where they were going until just before they arrive?
Never played 4 so some of the details were very surprising, but it looks kind of neat to be honest. All this talk about Dave Bautista lobbying for Marcus has put me in the mood for some Gears, so I've been hankering to play it again and more.
What even was that thing at 1:14? I haven't played 4 yet I may be out of the loop.
Metal Gear Solid V's kitchy 80s style ballad with female vocals remenicent of Tina Turner was way more novel and did 80s throwback a lot better than most stuff that attempts that to boot! Wish more games where willing to experiment more with style like that.
I've gotta say, the way they introduced GoW5 was the hardest I laughed in a long time. When they showed the logo, people got hyped then they showed the Pop! game and tactics and I couldn't believe MS would shit all over their fans like that. I think it ruined the hype train they would have had if they started with GoW5 first
I think they didn't want to end on the spin-offs because it would leave a sour taste in fans' mouths. Better to get the shit you know will upset fans out of the way and have most of the time dedicated to the main thing.
New enemy introduced in 5, didn't exist in 4.

The gameplay in 4 was easily some of the best Gears gameplay in the whole series. They basically nailed it on that front. If they can make the story better (even though I felt the story in 4 was generally fine), add some actual progression unlocks to MP and make most/every achievement give you some sort of non-RNG unlock, I think Gears 5 could be the best Gears game since 3. Gears 4 was close, but the lootboxes made me burnt out quick because I didn't feel any sort of progression. It was just grind credits to new loot box, rinse, and repeat. Grinding for achievements was also useless because there wasn't a single unlock tied to any of them, despite them adding a bunch of achievements over the life of the game. I'd love to have CoD-style challenges with a ton of unlockables, super hard achievements with a cool skin or character to grind for, and more. It would make the game so much better and give it a lot more longevity.
Oh, and no more map remakes in the MP please. Gears 4's DLC was filled with so many remakes.
Seeing as quite a lot of time has passed since GoW4, I kinda hope the early levels in GoW5 will be set more or less right after 4's ending. Why has the gang apparently rejoined the COG? Even Marcus seems in on it. They're aware that Kait is wearing a Locust symbol, and that she's related to the Locust Queen. How? When did she reveal that? There's a lot of opportunities to expand here.
Also, is the Gear talking with JD using a Lancer with a grenade launcher? Kickass.
