Trump and Trudeau have been at odds ever since the United States announced in late May that Canada will no longer be exempt from steel and aluminum tariffs, a decision that Trudeau described as “totally unacceptable.” Canada promptly announced a range of retaliatory tariffs to the tune of $16.6 billion.
Following Trump’s departure from the G7 summit, Trudeau said in a press conference that he told the U.S. president that his steel and aluminum tariffs were “kind of insulting,” that Canada “will not be pushed around” and that it would not hesitate to impose retaliatory measures.
On Twitter, Trump laid into Trudeau, calling the prime minister’s behaviour “meek and mild” and accusing him of making “false statements” at his press conference. On Sunday, Trump’s economic advisor Larry Kudlow told CNN that Trudeau “stabbed us in the back” while White House trade advisor Peter Navarro told Fox News that there’s “a “special place in hell” for Trudeau.”
As the political war of words unfolded, many Americans began to point out on social media the many times Canada has helped with United States, while sharing personal stories on why they are thankful for their neighbours to the north.

A member of the administration of the President of the United States of America said this.
Really makes you wonder about the big disconnect between the people in this country and the people who represent this country.
Friendly reminder that Canada took almost all the planes that were stranded in the air when the US shut down its airspace during 9/11. In many communities, stranded travellers were invited into private citizens' homes out of community generosity and some stranded people were stuck in Canada for up to a week.
It took George W. two years to thank Canada for that in an official capacity. Trump is likely unaware to begin with.
Does Trump's org have any real estate or business in Canada? If not I doubt he cares about the country at all.

"Tariffs on Canada!"
"Okay, tariffs on the US."
"DUDE WHAT THE FRICK HOW MOTHERFRICKING DARE YOU YOU PIECE OF POOP MEANIEHEAD"
He doesn't care about the country he's president of either.
I know that one building in Toronto that had signed a deal with Trump to license his name on the outside bought their way out of the contract to pull it off because $10 million or whatever the buyout was was cheaper than the bad PR he was making for them. I don't know if he has his name on any other buildings in Canada.

Trump accusing anyone of making "false statements" is patently absurd.
Incidentally, what Trump, and his surrogate advisors, seems to be reacting to is how Trudeau was, well, Canadian. Canadians have a reputation of being polite and we're also natural collaborators, trying to find a compromise that makes everyone somewhat happy. As such, we're likely to have a friendly and cooperative demeanor when trying to negotiate something. Trudeau talked shit about Trump after the conference, and Trump took that to be a "betrayal" after Trudeau put on a smile and talked nicely(?) to him. Thing is, Trudeau's publicly-stated position on Trump's tariffs and Trump's trade/foreign agenda was the same before and after the G7 conference, so either Trump is inventing a controversy to be mad about so he can look tough ahead of meeting Kim, or he really is that big of a gullible child.
Trump's own negotiation approach is simple and aggressive. What you see is what you get. He doesn't have the emotional regulation to have a public/private face, he's all public all the time, and he's infamous for it. So, if he really is butthurt over Trudeau not being bluntly honest and obnoxious about everything the way he is, it's understandable, but no less pathetic.
Suck it up, you chunky orangutan. You thought he was bluffing and then got blindsided when he smacked you back after you tried to push him around. You got owned, plain and simple. It's entirely your own fault.
Yeah but
Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?
We* did. After the US tried to take us over because they felt entitled to do whatever they wanted without repercussions, a fact Trump left out. Seems familiar!
* actually British soldiers and colonist militias, Canada wouldn't exist for decades to come
Trump is a threat to more than just economic stability. The number one reason there hasn't been a WWIII get is because economic globalization has made war comparatively unprofitable. If he doesn't back down global tensions are going to rise again. Ideally the best thing for the rest of the world would be to move most commerce to the EU and render trade with the USA secondary or obsolete.
Trump Tower Vancouver still exists.

For a second I thought the title meant that conservatives were pulling a "thanks Obama" but aimed at Canada.

It's great to imagine that scenario going down as:
US: "Hey, what if we annexed you?"
Not-Yet-Canada: "Hey, what if we set your capitol on fire?"
while White House trade advisor Peter Navarro told Fox News that there’s “a “special place in hell” for Trudeau.”
Yeah, it's it in a comfy chair with a bowl of popcorn watching your putrid soul being pitchforked in the ass for the rest of etenrity.
"a special place in hell" over this? How incredibly melodramatic.
Trump basically thinks he can treat all the US' allies like they're Chris Christie, and then gets confused and angry when they don't react the way Christie does.
