• Compasses in Rust?

Over the recent few months me and my team mates have been having a really hard time trying to give out directions of enemies, bases, or even resources. I really feel adding compasses would be such a good addition to the UI even if it was as basic as north, south, west and east with basic intervals between them for more specific directions. I would love to see a compass item or even a "built-in" compass feature to the UI (like FortNite ツ) Thanks for your time chaps <3 P.S. I'm drunk af

Sun rises over there, sun goes down over there. Or press G and hey presto, you don't need a compass, the map is automatically orientated.
That’s not a compass though is it? You can’t give callouts during a fight for example, “2 guys at 210”, I’m hardly able to stop and check my map or where the sun rises mid fight. Callouts and directions are critical in any team survival game, and I’m actually really surprised this simple addition hasn’t been added yet. I have 3k hours so I’d like to think I’d have a little bit of experience with Rusts mechanics and pvp..
Already answered in another thread (Rust needs an Compass!) Consider your prayers answered, with the next update there will be a new HUD addition. A non craft able compass. HUD Compass Helk is experimenting with a HUD based compass. Similar to Fortnite, it shows up on the top center of the screen and points at your current heading (North, South, East, West, and degrees in between). This is not a craftable, rather, it’s a new addition to the in game GUI (like the map). I asked Helk if he was thinking of tying it to an item you have to carry. He said, ‘Horse shit’ - so yeah, I don’t think it’s going to be part of an item any time soon. From a community perspective, this compass has received mixed reviews. Some are very happy at the idea of callouts being much easier (i.e. There’s a naked by the tree around 280). Others worry this is just another thing which breaks immersion and caters to large groups. Although I agree this will come much more in handy when you are in a group as opposed to solo (unless you like to call out specific locations to yourself), I don’t really think any benefit provided is anything to get worked up about. With regards to immersion, I agree, and think it’d be nice to have the option turn it off while leaving the rest of the HUD on. This is why I think having this be a crafted item would be a nice compromise. If you don’t want it, don’t craft it. And, for groups to gain from it, they have to make sure they are all equipped with one. As stated above, I hope this is something you can toggle on or off... Cause I see no benefit in this, not for me anyway.

I had a think about this the other day. I think the compass needs to be craftable, and not just onscreen. My idea was, when you have pants on, you get a small inven slot next to your pants, and one for hoodie also.. The only things that can be carried in these new slots, is Key Cards, Compass, Fuses. So as long as you have pants and hoodie on, you get to carry 2 small things without taking any more inventory up..
So do I, but we know that's not happening.

Update regarding compasses; After adding the initial compass functionality last week, Helk has improved on it over the past few days. Along with adding the ability to toggle the compass hud view on and off in the escape menu, he’s added the ability to have it be toggled on and off with a shortcut key ('c' by default). Players will now be able to choose whether the hotkey only displays the compass while holding it down or they can select to have clicking the 'c' key just toggle the compass on and off. Thank fuck, we can turn it off 👌👌👌
why would you want to turn it off? You'd be at such a disadvantage in pvp?
Because I like my HUD clean, and not contain unnecessary stuff on it. Besides, I'm solo so Compasses wouldn't benefit me at all.
Because being on a modded server I have had a compass for the last year and the placement of this one would stuff up my hud, And even though I play solo its still handy for finding "drops" ,
more room for nakeds on your screen makes sense
Why would you be at a disadvantage ? The "game" map already shows you what grid you are in, The new compass wont show you enemies location (as in some arcade game) , As it is you can tell team mates you are at "x/y grid" heading "up", "down" etc
I think they should remove the maps. If its really important then go to some website, put the seed in and physically print the map out. Next craft your in game compass, and tell your buddys to go two clicks southeast of the dome follow the river upstream and look for the watermelon patches and a base full of retards or a base full of cloth and water bottles. Instead of hey guys I am at upper G4.
