i cant even hold my tears when i stub my toe and she just took a bullet to the shoulder, shot with an arrow, knocked to the ground several times, and beat the fuck out of. call her a mary sue but ellie is awesome
You just described literally every video game character ever homie.
I still think this game handles getting shot a lot better than most games. The way she got knocked back and held her arm was cool.
yeah i guess to me every time she got hit, it seemed more consequential. she seems far more *human* than any other character ive seen.
Those animation transitions and AI interactions are incredible. I'm having a hard time believing it's real gameplay, but hey I said the same thing about the gameplay trailer for the first game and it turned out to be real so we'll see
Wasn't the original gameplay trailer for the Last of Us pretty scripted?
I was hoping for more interesting gameplay advancements, but I guess they wouldn't want to go too over the top with it and are keeping it grounded.
Maybe the fluidity of it was but IIRC you can do everything that was shown in that trailer.
i understand why they dont (game might become impossibly hard) but i feel like moving through the bushes makes a lot of noise, and if people are really close mb they should hear you? idk
video games
I wonder if stuff like the guy missing you and lodging his axe in the wall, the woman searching under cars and the AI squad regrouping when they lose you (when they enter the shop) is really all dynamic AI behavior or just scripted stuff for cinematic effect. It's little details like these that would really sell the game to me, but I am not sure they are entirely real.
Stealth was ridiculously easy in the first game and it seems like they're making it easier. It'd be nice if the enemies were capable of stealth too so they don't all just lumber around waiting to get picked off.
When she was walking backwards along the store counter and cocking the gun under the car, my brain legitimately got confused as to whether I was watching a game or live action. The animation of looking behind her and the lighting under the car are so damn impressive.
Gameplay looks amazing tbh, can't wait for a release date.
The final boss fight in the first game was a stealth section and he did use stealth so your "instinct" vision didn't work because he wasn't creating sound.
She also dodged like three hits in one of the melee fights, I hope that's something you can do to make melee combat less just spamming square.
I don't know man, this is so scripted. Like I don't even think half of the shit we saw is physically possible to code into a video game and still release it within a reasonable time. Felt like the Watch Dogs 1 trailer.
People thought the same of TLoU 1 gameplay and it played quite a bit like it. Uncharted 4 also has a lot of extremely smooth animation transitions that you would think were fake in a trailer.
Yeah I saw a twitter post of someone gushing over the facial animations when she killed the dude at the end with her bow, and I'm like 90% sure that won't be in the game. This is more like a proof of concept than gameplay. I'd love to be wrong though.
I mean using stealth that also works on higher difficulties. That xray vision thing isn't available grounded difficulty and it's still a cakewalk.
Did you not see UC4 or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's facial animations?
Yeah, in cutscenes.
i saw girls kissing and it made my pee pee feel good
No, the Last of Us trailer was heavily scripted to make the AI seem better than it actually was. This video show of what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF0EaH73ee4
The thing that annoys me the most about this gameplay is how obvious it is the person playing it knows where literally everything is. Like I get that that's how these kinds of things work but they could at least pretend to look around instead of jumping into an open area without looking where a normal player would at least hesitate to make sure the enemy isn't going to suddenly turn around.
I don't know, once you start putting emotion and "oh shIT, SHE'S UNDER THE TRUCK LOOKING AT ME I'M ABOUT TO DIE - AH I GOT SHOT IN THE EYE" levels of specificity into the AI for a gameplay trailer; I start rolling my eyes. I know in reality that sequence can be quite close to that; but in terms of detail it will be absolutely no where near that; and in my opinion that's false advertising. It sounds dumb; but give me the janky animations and camera angles so I can see how good even the shitty, janky parts of your game can look. The Spiderman showcase was a fantastic example of that.
I thought much the same when they showed off Uncharted 4 and that game ended up being essentially identical upon release (original pre-rendered trailer not withstanding, though the game came awful close to it at times). Even the AI behavior that people originally scoffed at in Uncharted 4's previews ended up being as shown. This trailer was well choreographed to get the optimal outcome, no question, but I didn't see much outside the realm of what Naughty Dog is capable of if they're given the time to do so. The only blatant piece of scripting I saw there was when she decided not to take out that last guy with the bow and instead chopped his head off. THAT was clearly done for the sake of the trailer.
E3 demos are always aiming to show the game at its best. I highly doubt 99% of the enemy encounters in this game will be as highly realized as what is being shown here. It's just isn't possible to give the player smooth controls and have the action be as well timed, choreographed and polished as what we see here. I'd love to be wrong, and would be amazed if the game was actually this polished without being nothing but QTEs, but hey we'll see.
That trailer is 100% bullshit. The game probably still has a great story to tell, but that level of fuzziness in the ai is not a fucking thing from naughty dog and won't be in five years either.
