This was a fun part of the game and very useful its a real shame its gone and because only you can see your own version of map nobody else could view it
So why take the feature away ?

Tomorrow I am going to get a permanent marker and draw on the press G map .
This was done to balance the fact that maps don't need to be crafted anymore. Now everyone has constant, direct access to maps and you can't steal one's map to see what's marked on it.
I do agree that it should be brought back though, I don't see how it can be an issue.
You couldn't see what anyone drew on a map anyways, that was broken since very early on.
I liked drawing on the maps just to make notes of specific things. Although the grid system helps, being able to actually identify something was useful imo

It was very helpful to make bases and nodes for farming and to navigate this was one of the things that facepunch actually got correct and guess what they scrapped it

Do not blame facepunch for this, you should thank those exploit seekers.
They where the ones that found out that if you crafted 100 maps with a friend, and you drop them all at once on the map / kill your friend so it explodes maps, the server wil get a "ddos" and will crash.
So many people where complaining about crashes and ddos, that they removed the craftable map.
With this they had a choice to make it paintable for everyone, what means you get 100-1000 versions of unique map with personal drawings, that takes a lot of performance for the server to store and maintain, or just remove it and let the Plugin devs take care of the people that still want to draw on the map.
It is still possible to draw on your map, you only have to join modded for that.
I agree that once they removed painting on your map this took away a good part of the game, but as server owner I'd rather see a good function gone than thousands of kids that exploit the map-crash when they don't get what they wanted and for that f*cking up a server to let it die / annoy other peeps.
If you want the "draw on map" function just do what i used to do and print out the map and use a marker , or use paint program to do it on your pc.
listen my friend, when you create a map and draw on it, server has to save it as a data to his database. Which means a lot of request.
make a macro that creates a map draw on it and drop it x 10 people doing same shit= free ddos
