Any way to replace sandbox killicons without making a gamemode?

Question is simple.
I want headshot kills that came from weapons using my SWEP base to display a headshot kill icon instead of the normal icon. From the looks of it, there is no way for me to override AddDeathNotice with a hook.Add, and DrawDeathNotice is useless as all the important code is marked as "local" in the deathnotices lua that comes by default.
Is there any way to accomplish this without making a gamemode just to override the default death notices?
