I don't know how they thought this would turn out well.
so never own a ps4 got it
Playstation: For the Players Money
Console Wars 2
Sony have always been really fucking weird about cross platform stuff. Despite there being no reason not to be as you're still going to need Ps+ most of the time so it doesn't even circumvent that. Does the same problem exist for PC players using the same account on the PS4? I can't see any mention of it and I wouldn't be super shocked if this was entirely due to the Switch as Sony and Nintendo are direct competitors after all.
the ps4 can crossplay with PC, just not other consoles
So, arrogant Sony has returned after much wealth and success from their newest console. I wonder how they're going to screw up the next console.
Apparently, if you bought items on the account and try to unlink them, it wipes out the purchases and unlocks. Basically resets your character.
Isn't it like free? Does it matter that you have to create a new account?
It sucks because I made my Epic account for UE4 and Unreal Tournament before Fortnite was out. Now because I played some Fortnite on my PS4 a couple of months ago it is locked out from being used on my Switch??? Like just ask Epic to not let me use the PS Plus cosmetics when I play on PC/Switch, don't just lock out an entire platform from an unrelated account.
The only thing they could do worse than this at this point is banning people for owning another system
this is so incredibly bizarre, isn't this a first for games objectively not wanting to play with each other?
Minecraft has this same problem as I recall. Sony steadfastly refuses to allow crossplay with the others. Switch is getting their update for it later this month if I'm reading things right. All other platforms have it already.
Refusing cross-platform compatibility is going to be a bigger and bigger problem for Sony as other platforms embrace it I really like them as a games publisher though so I hope they smarten the fuck up before they fail

How does anyone know this is sony and not nintendo?
Because Nintendo doing this would be an even crazier, stupider move. That, and have you missed everyone mentioning Sony's cross-platform history?
I've been on the Sony team for years now, but Epic should consider dropping support for the PS4 entirely completely with a public statement that they are forced to do it to protect their playerbase and in the interest of the gamer. Maybe something that big would bitchslap Sony' face hard enough and force them to take their head out of their ass and make them stop going "La La La I cannot hear the word cross-platform La La La " Idiots.
considering that mass majority of their playerbase (of literal millions!) is between PS4 and PC, not gonna happen.
Yeah sure but, Nintendo make weird and dumb moves all the time in regards to stuff that's online. And you gets don't have to barrage me with bad reading ratings, the article doen'st say why its defo Sony and not Nintendo, it just has a bunch of people blaming Sony. They Sony let like xbone/PC/PS4 accounts mix as far as I know, I don't see why anyone should assume its Sonys fault without actually knowing one way or the other.
I just find this bizarre. Sony is okay cross-play between PC and PS4 with War Thunder so I don't understand their train of thought.
Nobody is making any assumptions though, you're just living under a rock.
People are assuming Sony have done this when it could have been Nintendo.
That's not an assumption, please try researching the topic.
you mean sony, the same company that accidentally turned on cross platform fortnite then removed it because ?????????????????
I don't know how you can come to this conclusion when literally every other system appears to work with Switch
I am asking a question in a thread on the topic? If I knew the answer to the question, I wouldn't have asked the question. Why would have have to research further than the reading article in order to discus the article, when the thread literally exists for that purpose? Snarky responses and "just know more lol" isn't going to help me answer the question. It wasn't until @Venomousbeetle actually gave a reason, out of the 5 people that responded to me someone produced a valid point and even then, while it does make it more likely that its Sony fault rather than Nintendo, doesn't actually guarantee it
Because Nintendo has been open to cross-platform play. Sony hasn't.
If any of that was actually true you wouldn't be in here telling us what we're assuming as if you know any better. You earned every snarky response you got.
