What’s causing unusual bullet wounds among Gaza protesters? | +9..
Palestinian medical experts have been reporting unusually large and destructive bullet wounds among protesters in Gaza, leading to claims that IDF snipers have been using prohibited, ‘expanding’ ammunition. There could be another explanation.
KGB operatives
I heard that snipers in some countries use hollowpoints because they're more accurate at long range or something
ow
But nobody will care nor lift a finger. Since they don't want to be seen in a bad light.
Everyone knows, fewer care, and nobody will do a thing. Investigating Israel for their series of war crimes is the ultimate antisemetic action possible
It's more that the US vetoes any and all resolutions against Israel.
Israel is that kid from school that’s an untouchable bully because their dad owns the town.
According to the news Austraila has aswell.
Everyone does.
At least you finally admit that Israel has and is actively committing war crimes, I'm so proud of you @ScumBunny !
Oh, well if everyone's doing it then it's fine,
I never denied it.
Now, is anyone going to read the actual fucking article so we can maybe talk about it?
nah, did you know israel did wacrimes tho
That is because people mistakenly identify "open tip" bullets as hollow points. Obviously for good reason, they sound exactly the same.
In reality open tip bullets don't work like hollow points and don't violate the ban. Many NATO countries use them.
The wounds described on the victims would be consistent with full power rifle cartridges, like those fired from sniper Rifles, being fired at close range.
This is heavily addressed in OPs article if you would actually read it.
okay, sure, tell me when you read something unreasona-
Another possible explanation arises from the 2000 Or Commission’s report, which revealed police sniper tactics meant to increase the probability of impact and injury. Former snipers confirmed to the commission that the norm, also true in IDF units, is for more than one sniper to fire at the same target.
okay, increasing the chances of maiming someone via sniper shot, maybe some people can live with that.
The answer to the question of whether there is any correlation between “Open Tip Match” bullets and the severe wounds suffered by Palestinian demonstrators depends entirely on the assumption that Israeli snipers are using standard ammunition. It is possible that other ammunition types have been used — at least by some of the sniper teams — although no published information confirms this and the army has denied it.

However, it is also difficult to assess the effect of the OTM bullets on the type and severity of the wounds. On the one hand, the U.S. Army’s opinion is that the perforated-tip bullet does not influence the nature of the wound. On the other hand, bullets of this type are intended to wound a target with much greater speed and force to improve their “stopping power.”
okay, so more intentional wounding going on, sensing a theme here.
If the army’s claim that most of the demonstrators were shot when they attempted to damage or cross the separation fence is accurate, then the distance between the IDF soldiers and the demonstrators was, in many instances, tens of meters. At this distance, there are alternatives to sniper rifles, such as the Ruger rifle, which causes less severe wounds.
more intentional wounding going, you see.
yeah let's talk about it
if a country's military or government commits apartheid and genocide then those who did it and approved it should be put against a fucking wall
if they used illegal technology to guarantee pain and suffering to their victims then maybe they should know what the fuck it feels like
Looks like this discussion didn't go how you wanted it to huh scumbunny
There's only so much you can discuss genocide, unlawful killing, intentional maiming, the evils of any theocracy based regime and so on.
What exactly are you so smug about? Did you win the internet again?
I posted this story because it is written by someone who I consider extremely reliable on this matter, as he is a long time human rights activist with a lot of experience in this field as well as access to a lot of relevant information. He also happens to be my little brother.
I think that regardless of your take on this conflict in general or the current events in Gaza specifically it helps to have as much reliable information as you can get so you can base your opinions on actual understanding of the facts.
If anyone here read this article and gained a little more insight into this, even if his take was that the IDF are being terrible here- I'm fine with that. I'm certainly in an IDF cheerleading mood right now.
OTOH I don't really give a flying fuck what you think about anything. You've made your opinions clear through countless shitty little zingers. I'm here for discussions, not for whatever it is you're trying to do.
Feel free to keep following me around and box rating all my posts. It really hurts. Really.
Unless the protesters are soldiers in a nation's military, no they haven't.
War crimes aren't exclusive to soldiers. You can commit war crimes against civilians as well.
War crimes are committed by soldiers, but not necessarily on other soldiers. Shooting non-combatants is a war crime. A non-combatant CAN be a soldier, but it can also be civilians or medics. Destroying civilian housing and infrastructure (unless demanded by the necessities of war) is also a war crime.
Were you actually expecting a reasonable discussion about Israel here?
FP has always been very biased against them
More like the average is extremely biased to a pro-israel standpoint and FP's view is more moderate.
It's mostly confined to the US, too. Euros aren't such die-hard supporters generally.
israel injects muslim operatives within gaza protestors to stir up trouble so israel can shoot back and end the protest in a semi-justified manner
If I had to take a professional guess I would say it's a good chance they're using hollow points. Contrary to popular belief it's not against international law, expanding munitions were banned under the Hague Convention of 1899 which only applied to signatories. The US didn't sign it, and Isreal did not exist at the time so technically they're not breaking any treaties. However, pretty much everyone has followed the Hague including the US, and while it may not technically break any treaties it does go against what is internationally acceptable. With that said the US has considerd using hollow points for their handguns again, and to my understanding they have accepted some for use as apart of the acceptance of the M17/18
On the topic of open tip match bullets their design is very different than purpose built hollow points. While it may cause some expansion you would get similar deformation from an AP round going through body armor. The open tip more or less exists to improve aerodynamics first and foremost, unlike a true hollow point/expanding bullet which is designed to expand first and foremost.
"unusual bullet wounds in protesters" what a phrase
So, when Germany started to lose their hold on the Eastern Front in WWII, they started to face partizan fighters more and more frequently. They soon started retaliatory operations in which they wiped entire villages of isbas off the map. Tens of thousands of unarmed civilians were murdered in these operations.
Now, the Soviet Union never signed the Hogue or Geneva conventions, so because of this neither side was bound to the rules of either treaty. Due to that technicality, Nazi Germany didnt commit any war crimes by carrying out retaliatory operations or by executing captured partizans. Nor was the USSR responsible for any war crimes despite mass murder and mass rapes.
Those technicalities are great and all but Nazi Germany still ended up being chock full of war criminals despite not violating any of those treaties. Why, you may ask? Because killing unarmed civilians is super fucked up and very obviously a war crime
