For future reference, the weird cut out at the end was unintended. Windows forced an update on their video computer right at the end and broke the data coming into the recording/streaming computer. Nothing was lost but some of the remaining heartfelt words and Jeff signing off.

Phil Spencer just seems like a real down to earth dude who loves games, not some awful plastic robot CEO.
Always one of the best interviews of E3. He asks the right questions and Phil is always genuinely interested and not just putting up a PR shield.

Their talk about cross-play is what's most important IMO. absolutely cannot fathom the state it's been in for the past two decades and it's pretty awesome they it's being done away with over time. Even Sony will have to play ball and they better. I'm a playstation kid by heart, but fuck me if the PS5 doesn't get a total pass if they don't make an effort to match microsoft's service level. Backwards compatibility and cross-play are musts for the next generation.
Imagine if they announced cross play for the PS5 just for early brownie points before the console's release instead of just making it a thing now for PS4.
That'd be so indicative of their complacency.
It's like they never learned anything from the PS3 era. The only reason they're winning this gen... or won so far was due to being first out the gate, being the strongest machine and having Microsoft absolutely crap itself all over its fans.
They got handed the trophy and now microsoft are actually in the ring, really swinging and Sony is just resting on their (brilliant) exclusives and being dismissive as fuck about everything. Gotta sell those remasters, which was always a scummy practice.
So if they do what you suggested, i hope people will be ready to question why the PS4 can't also have cross-play... also, why they can't bring PS3 BC when the friggin Xbone is emulating the 360. I have no idea how they don't realize how precarious their position for next gen is. They absolutely need to do more than just show up like they did this gen and Japan brass need to get their head out of their asses and realize that endless marketing speak and rigid thinking will kill their gaming division like it killed the rest of Sony. I mean, it's what left PS3 struggling out of the gate despite the massive headstart in the form of brand-recognition built up by dominating the two preceeding generations.

the only reason ps4 was king out of gate was because the previous xbox boss wanted to drm used games for some dumb reason and sony actually used a marketing team for once
That's the first time I've seen someone high up in the console industry actually talk about framerates being something consoles lack in.
Jeff's Giantbomb interviews with Phil are always great at e3, like last year when Phil was talking about his passion for getting older games working on newer consoles and kind of battle you face doing that in a company that needs to make money. Jeff always asks the best hard-hitting questions while keeping such a friendly matter and you really get the impression that Phil has a passion for this stuff.
If you never catched it, Jeff interviewed him last year before the Xbox One X launch and that was also a really great interview. Really honest and frank chat about the industry and how MS pivoted after the Initial Xbox launch
To be fair, it was cool in some aspects (like essentially converting a physical game into a digital one, and ability to lend those to your friends) but mostly it was absolutely awful.
