What are they gonna do exactly? Use their failing economy to pressure us? Try to annex northern Norway? Declare war? What is gonna happen here exactly, because if this becomes violent he can bet his ass he's got a guerrilla war on his hands.
If Russia, for some reason, attacked Norway, they'd declare war on all of NATO.
"Oslo announced on Tuesday that it would ask the United States, its NATO ally, to send 700 Marines to train in Norway from 2019, against 330 at present, and said the additional troops would be based closer to the Russian border." 300 guys in a country that doesn't border Russia. Really?
Yep, they fly in our airspace and fuck around our borders all the time. We do this and they throw a bitch fit.
russia and norway does have a border actually
NATO troops to be stationed in NATO country, Russia for some reason angry.
But I thought Russia and USA were buddy-buddies now. Could it be that they are merely putting up an act for their own benefit? What a ruse we've fallen for! Old Russia has pulled us by our noses yet again!
The US and Russia are still very much against one another, hence the Russian diplomats being expelled after the Skripal poisonings in the UK. It's just Trump and Putin who seem to have an unusually close relationship.
Of course they are. They're not Russian troops.
Winter War V2, c'mon Russia, bring your conscripts. I know, that was Finland but close enough.
Oh shit, so it does. I always forget that Norway has that horn. My mistake.
Well, maybe if Russia was better at respecting other countries borders and sovereignity, the soldiers would not be needed. Russia can fuck off, frankly.
the former soviets now heads of state are still pretty pissed about Boris Yeltsin as we can clearly see so I don't think they're very happy with having their "republic" carved up either.
Maybe they should've thought about all that before acting the way they did. And of course they should have learned the lesson that doubling down on their bullshit isn't really going to help matters. It's just going to piss everyone else off, destroy what credibility they may have, and result in harsher consequences for their actions.
And it's even in the quote
Maybe Putin is learning from Trump and just giving out sound bites of "You'll see!" and not do anything
I hope one day a stray cruise missile just strikes Putin and deletes him.
Or maybe Trump learned it from Putin...
Or maybe Putin learned from Erdogan. He's the king of vague threats.
1. Totally an act of war that would in all likelihood plunge the world into total chaos and violence 2. The resultant power vacuum would invite another Russian oligarch to chase leadership for personal benefit and you'd be back to square one.
I didn't say who had to do it. I'd love if someone in his own military did it to him. And just let the next one eat another piece of ordnance. Eventually you run out of shitheads.
An unstable Russia that has swings from leader to leader is not good for the globe.
Since we're discussing pipe dreams anyway, why not instead hope that he has some huge perspective change that would lead him to reform himself and Russia in the international and domestic stage?
Not really, its difficult to organize or mobilize. You've basically got a consistently inert lump of land mass. Never give them a chance to prop themselves up again until basically there is no chance they could pose a threat again. Don't tolerate people like Putin or his kin.
My point is that Putin being killed off by a subordinate or a rogue group is about as likely as Putin enacting a benevolent paradigm shift: not likely at all. I don't like Putin either, but fantasizing about a cruise missile hitting the Kremlin as though that would somehow be a good thing is just dumb.
Russia honestly needs to just be deleted off the god damn Earth. It wouldn't shock me if literally everything that has gone wrong in the Western World is soley due to Russia.
Yeah who does Russia think they are! America?
I'm sure that'll work wonders with a nuclear-armed state.
Maybe for some other country, but with Russia being a major nuclear power I would sleep easier at night knowing it has stability.
