We V8 again since some schmuck wasted V8 on a shit title
Speaking of V8s, I'm strongly considering this 2002 Cadillac Escalade. $4,400 seems like a great deal, at least in my area. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/774/36b25e56-5918-4e00-b0c2-dc7528b46816/247ac5bdf0bc5679ad7902fed04be11a.jpg
Day 25: Car's still in the shop. Fuck
Did you buy a benz expecting it to spend time anywhere else??
new thread smell
Hoist get. Today's the day I pull the motor, seperate the trans, pull the flywheel and sit on my hands until wendsday, festering in regret that i don't have an AOD, because nobody that isn't a boatride away can resurface the flywheel.
Last one worked pretty well
Ideas for car alarm going off randomly at random times whether I lock it with the key or fob? I've got my service coming up next month but kinda don't want to subject the entire neighborhood to my alarm just going off randomly, at day or night.
Waiting to move to my new place to pick up that AE86 I mentioned in the previous thread. Don't currently have the storage for it since it'll need a whole brake overhaul but I can't stop already putting together carts of cool parts for it. So excited to maybe finally have a car I can (easily) mod.
This thing confuses me, its a 1990 FULLY loaded 3/4-ton i bought it running and driving with a damn near mint interior for $800 but the body is the complete opposite of the interior, the entire rear is rotted out, yet the floors and frame have surface rust while all 6 doors dont have any rust at all https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/9207c3ab-de01-47fb-9ceb-0746a5d07a46/IMG_0902.JPG
Doors were replaced?
Nope its all original, the only thing i can find on this truck thats been changed is someone added a hitch and trailer brake controller
Only thing I can figure is somehow water didn't get trapped in the doors but constantly got trapped in those other rust zones.
w/e there was never a v7 anyway
I just seem to trip over perfect condition volvos. I saw one down at the strip mall in the parking lot for sale, volvo 240, no rust, really good interior. Wish I could have bought it but we don't have room and I don't have money for 2 cars when I'm this young. Especially in michigan's super expensive insurance.
spent all day trying to get the motor out and came to the conclusion that the alignment pins have rusted to the engine/transmission and won't let the two seperate also transmission crossmember bolts are spinning in place because of course they are. Tomorrow's going to be a party.
@Araknid I promised you pics of my brother’s new GTi, and the Mighty AU always delivers https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/1fc91c8c-7de3-48c1-9167-51541070699b/4D9DA542-902E-423D-AE96-C55C75EF2C14.jpeg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/8d59e37e-a720-4b3c-877a-e25a7316bbc1/CEC43921-5D40-4120-95F7-35E288E1CCC0.jpeg Literally delivered by a mighty AU wagon!
truly a sight to behold
I saw a hummer limo for the first time in my life (and I live in Australia...) what a fucking hideous shit Then I looked at pictures of it. https://carsales.pxcrush.net/carsales/car/private/cp4694994383022261199.jpg?pxc_method=fit https://carsales.pxcrush.net/carsales/car/private/cp5208445909024784077.jpg?pxc_method=fit https://carsales.pxcrush.net/carsales/car/private/cp5017038082064938313.jpg?pxc_method=fit It's like GM was trying to make the most gaudy looking piece of CRAP in the world Then I saw that they made them in pink too. https://carsales.pxcrush.net/carsales/car/private/ogqmtwsmogtpe9vn2m3u0ilxd.jpg?pxc_method=fit what the FUCK is with American obsession with chrome? Every American truck has a YUGE hideous chrome grill.
Hummers, H2s being the worst offenders (I've seen a couple built H3s that I didn't hate), weren't made with subtly in mind
Hummers after the H1 are retarded and need to be culled along with the people who choose to drive them
H2 i can agree with, but the H3 has its place, a friend of mine has one that he does a ton of offroading with and around here in NH theres just no way you're fitting an H1 through the woods in some of the places we go
Rode in a stretched Hummer to my year 12 formal six years ago. Wasn’t my choice, as yeah, Hummers are just absurd haha. I think the only reason why people hire stretched Hummers is because they are cheaper to hire than every other limousine. It’s not just the trucks in America. When they exported the Holden VF over there, they made sure to put chrome everywhere on every single model; on the intake grille, brake vents, window surrounds and door handles, and give them the most terrible wheels. Compare a standard Holden VF SS with the standard, vulgar Chevrolet SS: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/06c54670-7f28-4e02-b49f-593bd698c06e/7E7924E5-7033-430E-9619-824E815818E6.jpeg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/6883f5b7-0af9-455a-8018-53f97485a834/CD43A6D2-B797-4087-8E8E-2C65BC826447.jpeg Did America ever get the Black edition from series 2? That was the looker; no chrome anywhere! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/a82bab04-cca1-4609-ab83-7b307fcd4231/1CDC1B43-6B55-4430-A537-9BD30425095A.jpeg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/b2d1ec9c-fd3a-4184-ab16-40ca6e42ff3a/E9F161F9-AF56-4792-9401-FF076CF2316C.jpeg
Dunno. Everyone seems to offer a "midnight" or "black" or etc. version of most cars nowadays though, where the chrome or whatever is imitating it is replaced or blacked out. Usually looks better.
The Chevrolet SS has too much chrome. It just looks gaudy, and yeah those wheels make it so much worse. Hell, I can deal with the chrome on the intake grille on that blue Holden, but even the chrome on the brake vents is too much. The Holden VF SS-Vs have as much chrome as the Chevrolet SS, but at least the SS-V was optional. I saw a pic a while ago of some bloke’s Commodore SS-V, and I thought that it had a tasteful amount of chrome. Sure it had chrome around the intake and windows, but the brake vent surrounds were blacked out, and the door handles were body-coloured. It also helped that it had the silver paint, so the remaining chrome didn’t really stand out. It looked heaps clean, especially with the wheels they put on the series 1 SS-Vs. I can’t find the bloody picture though.
Ive contemplated pulling all the chrome on my car, sanding the coating off and refinishing it with something classier. But then I remember that my car is an 01 and I'd bet that 80% of that plastic will break when pulled lol.
Right there with you, bud. I took my camaro to a shop to get rear tires put on it. A couple days later, the mechanic called me, told me the tires were on, but that it was now stuck in first gear and he couldn't shift it for the life of him. So, 2 weeks and a 500$ transmission rebuild kit later, and I'm still waiting on it. Shit sucks man, but it'll get done eventually.
Maybe I don’t know shit but that sounds really dodgy as hell. Whenever I’ve had tyres put on my car, it’s only ever been a five minute job. Make myself a coffee in the reception area, flick through two pages of an automotive magazine and bam, job’s done; here are your keys sir, she’s good to go. Those five minutes includes a complementary clean and shine of all tyres. Why did they hold it for several days to begin with?
find the guy who installed it and kick his ass alternatively, disarm it unless you think it'll get stolen otherwise
I had a feeling the tranny was going to go out on it, driving it was sketchy as fuck and you could just tell that it was about dead. The reason it took a while for the tires to be put on it is his shop is one of only a couple in the entire city that I live in so his jobs pile up fast. It is what it is.
