Crossdressing (CD) is the act of wearing clothes from the opposite gender This does not mean that someone is transgender. Crossdressing is usually a side hobby for someone and kept in secret unless otherwise noted..
Transgender (TG) is a condition where one feels their gender expression doesn't match their sex assigned at birth. This is most commonly short-handed with the phrase "born in the wrong body." Transgender expression has a very long history, going as far back as the Native Americans and beyond. Today, advocacy and pro-transgender issues have been the forefront of a lot of social change as of late. People who feel they are transgender are said to suffer from gender dysphoria.
How does one discover they are transgender?:
'Discovering' that one is transgender varies wildly on a case-by-case basis. Most transgender individuals have thoughts in early childhood that point toward the basis of their identity, while others don't really figure it out until they're as late as 30. Almost all transgender people agree, however, that you are born the way you are, just as other forms of identity start early. Similar to homosexuality, there is no universally accepted causal link to where transgender leanings begin within the womb, however brain chemistry differences prove that transgender feelings root themselves very early in a child's existence.
How do I “treat” my transgenderism?
Treatment is done on a case-by-case basis. Most individuals undergo extensive therapy. If deemed eligible, you will move on to the bulk of transitioning: hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement therapy seeks to re-balance the sex hormones currently within the transitioning individual with the sex hormone belonging to the desired sex. For female-to-males, this is done by suppressing the effect and release of estrogen and by replacing it with the male sex hormone, testosterone. For male-to-females, they use the same procedure however the roles are reversed -- testosterone is suppressed, and in its place, estrogen is introduced into the body.
Typically this is done via an intake of two pills a day, a hormone blocker and an opposing hormone supplement. Other methods include injection.
The final step to transitioning may or may not be required for a complete, legal transition, varying from location to location. Sexual reassignment surgery, or SRS, is an invasive operation that removes one’s sexual organs. Often times, an analog for the desired organs will replace the lost organs. Unfortunately, at this time, the operation is entirely cosmetic and will not replace the organs with working counterparts for the other sex. A transman will not gain a functional penis, nor will a transwoman acquire a uterus.
Common Misconceptions/Stereotypes about Transgenderism:
Being transgender is a mental illness! :
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (known as DSM-5/DSM-V), Gender Dysphoria is not classified as a mental illness, but rather a mental disorder.
Every single transgender person has to go through surgery/hormones to feel like their gender :
HRT is simply the most common route for a transgender person to follow. Though common, not everyone follows through with SRS. There are also folks who are happy with being androgynous, gender queer, non-binary, or otherwise, and do not take any medical steps to feel like themselves. Sometimes, a new haircut and wardrobe are all that’s needed!
If a transgender person transitions, I lose them as a person! :
When someone decides to transition, they are not “lost”, merely changed. A mother does not “lose” her son and “gain” a daughter. A husband does not “lose” his wife and “gain” a husband. They are still the same person, they are just matching how they look and present to how the feel inside. In most cases, there are some personality changes as hormones can change one’s behavior, similar to how a woman on her period can be more irritable or prone to mood swings. Habits and interests may change as well, though this is most commonly due to feeling that they can finally be themselves and not hide portions of their personality.

Not a transgender person but still want to help those that want to go through it? You sound like you want to become an ally!

Thread Guidelines:
- Respect all people who post here and you will get respect yourself.
- Don't flame or troll.
- If someone flames or trolls the community, report and move on.
- This discussion gets off-topic. The discussion doesn't have to be about transgender/crossdressing people or issues, but it's encouraged.
- If you're not transgender or a crossdresser, yes you are welcome, but please respect others.
- The opposite applies. Anyone in this thread who is not transgender is just as valid in saying anything they want to say as you are. Just because this discussion isn't meant for them doesn't mean they have no say on issues in the community. Everyone here is welcome.
mm, that fresh thread smell. smells like salt and vinegar crisps
We crack eggs faster then threads can lock.
Went shopping with my friend to kill time while we waited for our coworkers to get to the restaurant nearby. For once I didn't feel out of place. She brought me into victorias secret to look at underwear and stuff. I didn't buy anything because our party arrived sooner than expected, but we'll go again some other time.
Fresh new thread, yay!
After two days of staring at an email coming out to my old boss who has a bunch of building plans that need drawing, i finally sent it and got sent back a super casual reply to it!
I worked there closeted for a few months before I moved to Wales, after all my panicking it turns out they were super chill!
Now it's only my extended family that need to learn about it~
I didn't go to my appointment. I couldn't deal. Lady sounded like a right asshole and I just couldn't deal.
Bleh. At least it's the weekend.
I was worried for a moment, I thought the thread was gone for good, haha
Just Garry making weird and seemingly arbitrary changes to the forums without warning anyone at all again.
Been on HRT for two weeks now, woop. Unfortunately I had to go the DIY route, but oh well. I got fed up enough with the ~official~ chucklefuckery after realizing I was going bald incredibly fast; fuck that, I'm not losing all my hair just so a bunch of assclowns can feel good about themselves.
I still haven't managed to come out to my parents though, so this is gonna be fun to explain the next time I see them, esp. since breast development is kicking in pretty hard.
I'm aware. It's just that a lot of the other changes started noticably occuring pretty quickly, presumably because my endos have been screwed up for months already. I'm really just hoping to get some progress before the dysphoria ends up killing me.
I can't really talk truthfully to a professional about that either since getting a GID diagnosis + therapy requires you to be mary fucking sue, and at this point I'm kinda afraid of getting slapped with DID.
ughhh, I'm due my t-blockers injection.. Too much info warning.
I've been thinking about getting an orchiectomy/bottom surgery in general. Anyone in the uk, particularity Scotland have experience with it?
Also I think need to get checked for B12 deficiency, my dad has it and my hair is turning grey at 20 lmaoo also I've been sleeping a shitton
I hope everyone is doing wonderful and living their best lives
I am in Scotland and I was told
NHS Scotland is making me want to smash my head against a wall.
I revieved my diagnosis in the Netherlands and was prescribed HRT, but I returned to Scotland after the NHS said they would cover my care.
So I dropped everything and came back (should point out I am a Dutch resident but British Citizen) but suddenly I was taken off HRT and placed at the very bottom of a over 2 year waiting list to have even an initial appointment (which I was told I would not need since I have already received diagnosis and started treatment) and was told several times by NHS staff that I was not serious despite having lived as a woman for the past 6 months. Thank God that Dr Webberly's service exists; she actually communicates with me and my Dutch doctor.
I was also sexually assaulted and NHS staff had the gall to suggest I had imagined it because 'people don't want to have sex with trans people'
I hope you have better luck, but I have given up all hope entirely with NHS Scotland
It's the NHS - I reported it but nothing happened because it's the NHS.
The fact I get better care in a country where I am not even a citizen is hilarious.
Jesus christ that's awful, I'll bring it to my doc in september I guess.
Sorry you had to experience that :c
Thanks, but honestly I'm not surprised, I know people who have had similar experiences to mine.
Lothian seems to be one of the better places in Scotland to get treatment from what I have heard, but I am in the Forth Valley (at least until next year when I go back to the Netherlands for good) and there is /nothing/ in place for trans care here. If you want stuff done, you need to go to Glasgow and get slotted at the bottom of the list and treated like absolute garbage.
I'm just gonna stay private tbh.
>people don't want to have sex with trans people
What kind of an idiot thinks this is true, trans is a huge fetish. And even barring the weird fetishists about it, plenty of people have no issues about it.
The thing is that the NHS staff I spoke to probably don't believe that, they just don't want to push paperwork so try and brush it off.
The problem in Scotland is not really social, it's entirely with the healthcare system.
Ordered some skirts!
Also ordered a woman's tank top but I have no clue for chest size so... Yea.
i've found that these sizing guides tend to be alright
i'm a dress size 20 in almost all respects for example
I need to measure myself then, or can I go somewhere and have them do it and write it down for me?
Trying to find little ways to cope with not being able to transition or anything yet. Been looking a lot at long-haired dudes to make me feel better about not being able to cut it for a while. Also started working out today. Hoping I can stick to it as an every-other-day thing.
Welp, I bit the bullet and bought six session of laser.
Just learned that if I want to transition (and I do) I have to quit tobacco. It's good to have a reason now but fuck i'll miss black & milds.
How much did it end up costing, or it you pay per session? Do they have payment plans?
$207 with a Groupon. The discount only applies to new customers though. I figure I'll just bounce to different laser centers after the 6 is over.
hello everyone, today i had an "honest" conversation with a TERF
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110546/e7251073-d42e-4b32-b9c9-b26bcc3a50fd/NO-LGBT-SCIENCE-ASDFGHJKL.gif
i can't even reply to them, every time i look at their latest tweet i just another laughing fit and have to close the tab.
why even bother
I had to read up on what a TERF was and holy shit those people are nuts.
