I would love for Kim and Moon to get the Nobel, and Trump to be snubbed. He's done nothing to actually improve the situation, and keeps injecting drama because that's all he knows how to do.
I'm not a fan of how the US-NK talks have been all-show, no action, but the talk is at least going the right way. If we get peace out of it, great, but I'm concerned that important objectives like "actually get rid of North Korea's nukes" and "get North Korea to not be an absolute horror show of human rights violations" will be overlooked in the rush to sign any peace treaty Donald can wave around like his electoral college map.
no
The country is committing tons of atrocities, but even I have to admit Kim is working towards peace, and peace is a necessary prerequisite for North Korea liberalizing.
(And it's not like the Peace Prize has never gone towards bad people doing good things. This would basically be like Arafat's 1994 prize.)
Let's not jump the gun on this. NK has a history of hyping up peace talks to curry favor, then calling them off at the last minute. They've done this twice since 2000, if memory serves me right.
I still cannot believe how a country could go from extreme isolationism and near deifying of an oppressive dictator still living in the early 60's, to actively seeking diplomacy and cooperation with their greatest rival in a few months time.
If you had told me a year ago that North Korea was going to undergo a complete 180, I would have called you insane. It's honestly amazing.
